The Sr. HICT insures that all technical aspects with regard to release of medical information are carried out in accordance with established standards and in compliance with federal and local laws, and Kaiser Permanente policy. This function includes all the duties and responsibilities of the Health Information Correspondence Technician role including but not limited to: copying records, abstracting information from records and releasing records to authorized parties.
Essential Functions:
- Coordinates, determines appropriate response and processes release of medical information in a timely, compliant and responsive manner for all incoming requests for release of information in all formats, regardless of complexity.
- Analysis of incoming release of information requests determining if Authorization to release medical information is complete and HIPAA compliant.
- Analysis of incoming release of information requests, determining type of request for processing according to current ROI workflows, State of Georgia State Statute Codes, and Kaiser Permanente Policies and Procedures
- Processes Production of Documents, Certifications and Subpoenas and any other legal requests within established standards.
- Recapitulates medical information for FMLA, Disability, OB Disability and Non Disability requests.
- Maintains record of correspondence requests in a standard format in the ROI Log/Request application.
- Coordinates activities with outside vendor copier service.
- Completes special projects and assignments for Supervisor and/or HIMS Manager.
- Participates in regular quality assurance activities by providing technical support, such as data collection, report compilation, etc as requested.
- Insures appropriate billing processes are followed and reconciles same.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in health services discipline or Associates degree in an AHIMA accredited formal HIT program with an RHIA or RHIT
certification
- Three to Five years or more direct ROI experience in a request responsive decision making capacity.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel skills required. Passing score 70% or greater.
- Knowledge of CPT & ICD-9 coding guidelines.
- Passing score of 80% on medical terminology.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five years of ambulatory setting release of information.
- Time Management skills
- Prioritization skills
