About Design at DePuy
An orthopedic surgeon selects over 30 instruments from several hundred available during a single hip or knee replacement procedure. The procedures are intense, time consuming and the outcome must be right every time - there is no room for error.

About You
The successful candidate will be diverse in their thinking, capabilities and will embrace the various roles the position requires including:

Human Factors/ Usability Champion. Use human-centered design methodologies to identify what makes the product intuitive-to-use. Observe highly skilled 'Key Opinion Leaders' and complete novices as they interact with existing products, sketch models, and prototypes. Identify and eliminate potential use errors early in the development process. Leverage your insight to inspire other team members to think more empathically.

Research-driven Innovator. Provide creative design leadership that uncovers new product opportunities. Work face to face with our customers, gather, synthesize and convert user research into amazing concepts that differentiate DePuy in the market.

Classic Industrial Designer. Possess a strong understanding of "how things work" with an innate interest in materials and process. Use traditional sketching and CAD tools to create concepts that meet cost targets, project schedule, manufacturing processes and hospital procedures. Collaborate and evolve existing visual brand language, as well as contribute to future design strategies.

Brand Ambassador. Collaborate across the DePuy Franchise and J&J to help build a compelling and unique brand presence in our market. Apply your flair and creativity to help create a brand that fuses great product design with customer aspirations. Strategic Design Planner. Optimize IDHF's ability to execute great design within complex environment. You must possess broad project management skills and the ability to seamlessly switch between big picture thinking and product level details.

Qualifications


Qualifications:
Education BA or BS in Industrial Design or equivalent required. Masters Degree in design, marketing or business a strong plus.

Professional Experience
At least five years of extensive experience applying industrial design throughout the entire product development process is required. Creative capacity to conceptualize designs, develop & identify alternative solutions to problems is required, along with the ability to communicate using 3D CAD modeling and 2D visualization and presentation skills.

Must possess confident interpersonal communication and influencing skills. Strong project management skills, including planning & tracking skills required. Experience leading Industrial Design initiatives and integrating Industrial Design into corporate procedures is a strong plus.

Experience identifying customer needs and requirements through user research and creating new strategies for customers is required for this role. To that end, demonstrated experience conducting and facilitating usability testing is a highly desired asset.

Experience with the regulatory landscape, especially an understanding of medical device usability standards, is a strong plus.
