Supervises activities of sterile processing services. Directs efficient internal sterilization, cleaning, and delivery of sterilized and equipment within Medical Center. Develops, implements, and monitors quality assurance program. Analyzes records, data, trends, and feedback from administration and other departments to meet quality assurance service goals on ongoing basis. Serves as a role model. Supervises assigned staff.
Essential Functions:
- Develops, maintains, and updates policy and procedure manual for the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). Implements applicable department policy and procedures. Recommends changes in guidelines, proceducres and policies
- Updates and revises procedures to coordinate reprocessing and re-assembly of supplies and equipment used in care and treatment of patients as needed. Develops procedures for new equipment and instruments as necessary. Maintains adequate quantities to meet patient care demands
- Maintains process for and monitors cleaning of all equipment. Identifies equipment needs and submits requisitions/recommendations for purchase. Initiates work orders. Reports equipment needs and safety hazards. Works with Maintenance and Biomed Departments for equipment preventive maintenance, including parts replacement and repairs
- Develops, implements, and monitors quality assurance program. Analyzes records, data, trends, and feedback from administration and other departments to meet quality assurance service goals on ongoing basis
- Monitors, orders, and maintains adequate stock of supplies and equipment
- Develops and maintains good working relationships with all hospital and clinic departments by providing service and open communication. Keeps abreast of user needs and changing requirements. Ensures full understanding and acceptance of SPD procedures
- Communicates with departments serviced, including outlying clinics. Provides full understanding of Sterile Processing capabilities and means of utilizing support services. Provides consultative services to departments that reprocess reusable instrumentation
- Assists the Sterile Processing Manager as needed
- Hires, trains, supervises, counsels, disciplines, and terminates assigned staff as appropriate
- Communicates goals, objectives, accountabilities, priorities, and authority parameters to assigned staff
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Two year of instrument processing /inventory management or related experience in healthcare setting
- bachelor's degree in business administration or related field; or equivalent related experience
- Certified Registered Central Services Technician (CRCST) with the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM)
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in decision making, customer service, oral communication, written communication, problem solving, and quality management
Preferred Qualifications:
- Supervisory/lead or project management experience
