The Director of Quality & Patient Safety provides leadership, direction and oversight for the development and implementation of a comprehensive quality program that supports developing and implementing process improvement, outcome management, and quality and service standards and systems. This includes quality improvement activities and regulatory compliance as well as local and national quality initiatives for the Hospitals, Ambulatory Surgery Centers and Brookside Residential Program in the Northwest Region.
The Director works to build a cross-functional, interdisciplinary team that focuses on clinical Quality Improvement (QI), Patient Safety, Patient Experience and Clinical Analytics. This leadership role serves as a key resource to executives, physicians, directors, and staff.
The director collaborates with others within the organization to improve processes and services that will reduce preventable medical/health care errors and other factors contributing to unintended adverse patient outcomes, improve patient/family experience, and promote effective and efficient care.
Essential Functions:

- Program Responsibilities: Develops & implements a framework for continuously monitoring & improving the quality of care & service to patients & collaborating to promote a culture of safety.
- Facilitates the redesign of clinical care & key processes to improve efficiency, quality & cost-effectiveness consistent with best practices & current medical knowledge.
- Oversees the systematic collection, reporting, analysis & interpretation of data regarding quality & safety, including national data bases.
- Proactively educates leadership & staff regarding quality improvement & safety issues, guidelines, methodologies, & improvement activities.
- Department Management: Manages departmental human resources, systems & workflow processes to achieve department goals & objectives & hires, trains, supervises, counsels assigned staff as appropriate.
- Collaboration: Fosters & maintains collaborative relationships within the hospital, ambulatory surgery centers, residential programs, medical & patient care staffs, & with external agencies & stakeholders related to quality & safety initiatives.
- In consultation with Accreditation, Licensing & Regulation (ARL) & Hospital Compliance, provides direction necessary to ensure that clinical services are in accordance with standards established through state & federal regulations & Joint Commission accreditation standards, including the National Patient Safety Goals.

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Five (5) plus years of quality management/quality improvement experience in a health care setting including designing, developing, and implementing quality management programs.
- Three (3) years progressive supervisory/management experience.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing, health care administration or a work-related discipline.
- Oregon RN License.
- Certification as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) required or must be obtained within twelve (12) months of employment.
- Ability to supervise, coach, mentor, train and evaluate work results.
- Familiar with medical care delivery in an acute care setting and knowledge of principles and practices of strategic planning, quality improvement and program evaluation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of governmental and other regulatory standards, requirements, and guidelines related to quality improvement in healthcare.
- Knowledge of current federal, state and Joint Commission, regulations, policies and standards.
- Must be capable of interpreting and implementing programs and projects to comply with these requirements for quality assurance.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in ongoing monitoring techniques (criteria development and statistical analysis) and medical care delivery in hospital and outpatient settings, statistical analysis and reporting practices pertaining to quality improvement and program evaluation.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, make effective oral presentation and prepare concise written reports to a variety of audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a work-related discipline/field preferred.
- Lean Six Sigma or other similar improved methodology systems preferred.
