DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. is recruiting for a Design Engineer III Product Development-Hips- in Warsaw, IN.
The Design Engineer III Product Development-Hips will be responsible for ensuring that form, fit, function, technical integrity and ease of manufacture are satisfied during the product design and development process. The translation of customer requirements, design inputs and specifications into innovative, novel, and robust design solutions for implants and instruments is a central activity of this role. Furthermore, a key responsibility is ensuring that appropriate verification activity is completed to provide evidence of a successful design. The Design Engineer III will participate on cross-functional project teams through all phases of the product development process, and may occasionally lead smaller or sub-teams. The candidate will work closely with product development engineers to translate user needs, generate design concepts, produce prototypes, perform design evaluations (such as layouts, tolerance stack-ups, FEA, simulated use testing, kinematic analysis, etc.) and support development of product validation plans and testing. The candidate will act as a lead design engineering resource, and will mentor or provide instruction to junior professionals or contractors. May act as a design team leader to manage work, or may supervise a small group of colleagues and/or contractors. This position will generate data and deliverables required for Development History Files (DHF), and will be responsible for creation and approval of ECOs. Will develop company design standards that drive efficiencies, and will evaluate the selection of new tools. The candidate is expected to complete work assignments with limited supervision.
The Design Engineer III Product Development-Hips will work with manufacturing engineering and suppliers to optimize designs for manufacturability and/or assembly. The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in the application of design and drafting standards, as well as complex 3D modeling skills using NX. May develop detailed drawings and provide drafting support to associates. The candidate must have a demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage a varied workload, exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills and interface effectively with project teams and surgeons. The individual will also be expected to develop an expert knowledge of our product lines and detailed knowledge of various musculo-skeletal pathologies.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline is required. A minimum of 5 years work experience in product design / development or engineering is required. Experience in design and development of orthopaedic medical devices is an asset. Candidate must have demonstrated expertise in various types of mechanisms, materials, GD&T and drafting standards. Proficiency utilizing the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is required.
The candidate must have a demonstrated background in developing creative solutions to solve design problems. Must provide advanced design and technical engineering expertise and solutions for mechanical and mechanical process interaction issues. Can conceptualize ideas and understand inadequacies of designs. A successful track record of effectively working within a cross-functional team bringing products from concept to launch is required. Must have the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts, ideas and knowledge to other individuals, surgeons, customers and suppliers. The ability to review and critically assess patents and other forms of intellectual property is preferred. This position may require up to 10% or more travel. This position will be based in Warsaw, IN.
