We are currently searching for a Manager of Actuarial at our headquarters located in Bethesda, MD. This role provides corporate actuarial support to all Coventry health plans, with a focus on health care reform loss ratio reporting, including but not limited to: overseeing development of monthly reserve estimates, contributing to the development of annual filings, and providing other general support to the Actuarial and Finance teams.
The ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES of this role are:
•Provides leadership and direction to a process or actuarial team. Recruits, develops, and motivates staff. Initiates and communicates a variety of personnel actions including employment, termination, performance reviews, salary reviews, and disciplinary actions.
•Oversees Coventry’s Minimum MLR Rebate accrual process and present monthly results to Corporate Senior Management.
•Adapts Minimum MLR Rebate accrual model to changes in Federal and State regulations.
• Works closely with business leaders in Corporate Finance, Legal, Marketing, IT, and at Coventry’s Health Plans to represent the Actuarial department as subject matter expert in Coventry’s Minimum MLR Rebate payment process.
•Understands actuarial and business implications of PPACA regulation.
•Applies knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to reserve analyses.
•Ensures the accuracy of work assigned through the development and use of reconciliation techniques.
•Analyzes, summarizes, and reconciles essential statistical data.
•Explains actuarial methodology to appropriate parties.
•Designs specific actuarial studies and research projects as requested.
•Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
•Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
•Substantial experience (6+ years) in an analytic department with at least 2 years of experience supervising professional employees and/or complex projects.
•FSA or ASA credentials.
•Knowledgeable of all federal and state laws and regulations professional standards and current managed care practices.
•Strong team building skills and ability to manage and develop a group of professionals with diverse skills.
•Strong written and verbal communication skills; extensive knowledge of analytic methods, statistical techniques, marketplace dynamics and alternative pricing scenarios.
•Strong project management skills; understanding of healthcare economics and insurance management.
