The Ethicon Surgical Care business offers a broad range of products, platforms and technologies-including sutures, surgical staplers, clip appliers, trocars and synthetic mesh devices-that are used in a wide variety of minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. Ethicon Surgical Care is currently recruiting for a R&D Primary Design Engineer, Transducers to be based in Cincinnati, OH.

Leveraging your background with PZT materials and transducer design for product development experience in our ultrasonic technology development team. Work is focused on the design of novel transducers for our Harmonic ultrasonic cutting and coagulating surgical devices and includes responsibility (schedule, work quality, costs) for project management of small/medium projects; managing external partners of defined scope, including global outsourcing partners. Ensuring appropriate, safe, and effective design approaches are undertaken in pursuit of developing new ultrasonic transducers. Interdependently lead and manage system-level efforts such as subsystem integration, manufacturing test strategy development, system validation testing, and interface strategies. Ensuring commercialization activities comply with corporate procedures. Working with internal and external customers to determine requirements, translate to system / device requirements, and create concepts, plans, and specifications. Managing system and subsystem risk analysis and FMEA's, ensuring effective risk-based design and mitigation.

Qualifications


A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Acoustics or a related discipline is required.

A minimum of 3 years of experience in the engineering design and prototyping of piezoelectric transducers or piezoelectric devices is required.

In-depth knowledge of piezoelectric materials and applications and a working knowledge in Finite Element Analysis and hands-on first principle calculations is required.

Experience with the following desirable:

Medical products or other highly regulated industry. Successful track record of innovative transducer design, especially development of Langevin transducers and/or other high power transduction devices . Project management, particularly with globally sourced projects, desired. Risk-based design, including application and design FMEA's. Experience working with multiple device systems. Experience in DFMA.
