Position is designed to provide clinical internship for second-year MSW students who have prior experience working in a mental health setting. Internship is based in outpatient Adult, Intensive Case Clinical Management or Child and Family Psychiatry. Supervision is provided by Licensed Clinical Social Worker(s). Intern placement process will be in collaboration with accredited schools of Social Work.
Position is temporary with benefits. This position ONLY pertains to the Northern California Mental Health Training Programs.
Essential Functions:
- Provide psychotherapy and clinical case management to patients utilizing group, family and individual modalities
- Relate to patients, colleagues and supervisors of diverse backgrounds in a manner that conveys respect and interest in understanding the experiences of others
- Actively participate in assigned clinical supervision and complete regular process recordings to facilitate clinical learning
- Participate in workshops and seminars on a regular basis as part of the training
- Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, and other staff functions
- Facilitate community outreach and community referrals as needed
- Provide case management for a variety of psycho-social issues
- Utilize resources of public and private agencies
- Maintain confidential patient files/records and information in a timely manner
- Comply with regional and local policies and procedures
- Comply with the NASW Code of Ethics and state laws pertaining to the delivery of mental health services
- Other duties as assigned
- Team-specific duties performed by Social Work Interns under the direct supervision of licensed clinical social workers:
- Adult Team: Provide individual and group counseling to adults in a brief therapy model
- Child/Family Team: Provide individual, family and/or group counseling to children, adolescents, and families
- Intensive Case Management: Provide individual, family and group psychotherapy services to patients with severe and persistent mental illness with goal of stabilization of symptoms
- Facilitate treatment by interacting with psychiatric hospitals, partial hospitalization programs, crisis residential facilities, and other intensive programs
- Chemical Dependency: Provide services to patients who are in the contemplation phase, the early stages of their recovery, and patients with longer-term sobriety
- Provide separate and conjoint treatments for family members
Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in providing individual, family, and/or group therapies
- BA, BS or BSW
- Currently enrolled in second year of master's degree program in Social Work/Social Welfare in a clinical track with a mental health concentration
- Currently a second-year student enrolled in a graduate program leading to a master's degree in Social Work/Social Welfare in a clinical track
- Training in psychosocial diagnoses and the provision of standard clinical social work services, preferred
- Completed training in: Mental Status Evaluation; Mandated Reporting; Suicide/Homicide/Danger Assessment; Ethics and Confidentiality; the DSM (Psychopathology/Abnormal Psychology); Theories and Practices of Psychotherapy; and Personality and Psychological Development, preferred
- Training in Clinical Case Management, preferred
- Acquisition of a theoretical background in cognitive, emotional, and interpersonal functioning, abnormal psychology, and in the major schools of psychotherapy, preferred
- Familiarity with Chemical Dependency, Adult, and/or Child and Adolescent populations, preferred
- Demonstrated professional maturity and ethical integrity necessary for assuming professional responsibilities, preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to quality of service, teamwork and participation in a highly interactive multidisciplinary clinic, preferred
- Demonstrated ability to complete multiple tasks/objectives in a timely manner, preferred
