The Injection Molding and Materials Characterization Engineer provide injection molding engineering and related materials support in the concept, prototyping, process/equipment development and production scale up of new products and components from R&D, Supply Chain, manufacturing transfers and business acquisitions for medical injection molding. Lead or actively participate in cross-functional teams to ensure New Product Introduction/Research and Development projects are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Support (including single and multi-cavity molds, insert injection molding, prototype and production tooling), post-molding operations, and part design using statistical software and practices. Provide engineering support in product transfers from R&D to Manufacturing; provide engineering support in product line transfers from outside facilities to internal manufacturing in LifeScan. Provide timely and accurate reporting on project activities. Perform materials characterization identifying the critical to quality elements that are important for the manufacturing process. Ensures that molding equipment meets company specifications, schedules and budgets. Provide troubleshooting expertise and resolve Injection Molding equipments, system and process problems using strong systematic and statistical methodologies. Provide key inputs and leadership into transformational process development. Work with team leader to develop and implement strategic engineering Goals and Objectives. Follows, observes and promotes all regulatory requirements and compliance (QRS, ISO, FDA, et. al.) internal policies, rules and procedures, established by the Company and in particular, emphasis on Purchasing Controls System and Process Controls and related Validation Systems requirements. Develop technical problem solving skills among process technicians.

Qualifications


A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Material, or Polymer Engineering or related discipline is required. A Master's Degree is preferred. A minimum of six (6) to eight (8) years of related experience in injection molding is required. Experience reading shop drawings and computer-aided designs (CAD) is preferred. Engineers in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) License in good standing. Project Management experience is highly desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish are required. Eye-hand coordination, moving about capacity, hearing discrimination, and manual skills is required. Movement of objects such as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling is required. Visual discriminations for near, depth perception, visual accommodation, colors vision and field of vision is required. Ability to establish positive interpersonal relations and interact with people effectively and work effectively under time pressure. Good communication skills. Requires initiative, creativity and assertiveness abilities. Availability to travel 30% within Puerto Rico and United States. Must be able to work under pressure achieving consistently high results through individual and team efforts.
