The Staff Mechanical Engineer requires strong mechanical engineering and problem solving skills to drive the design and development of innovative products and processes to treat cardiovascular disease. Out of the box thinking complimented with robust design methodology and analytical techniques are required. Responsibilities may include the following: prototyping, concept definition and selection, component & process design, characterization, testing, statistical analysis, protocol & report writing, and technical presentations. The Staff Mechanical Engineer demonstrates full use and application of standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques, selects design direction or modifications of components of systems and participates in decisions on scope of work, selection of equipment and length of tasks.

The Staff Mechanical Engineer exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. The candidate must be able to accomplish broad and complex assignments and may provide technical guidance to lower level personnel. Candidates will be responsible for developing concept and detailed design models and assemblies, quality, statistical process controls, knowledge of part manufacturing processes & tooling methodologies, effective team interpersonal skills and conflict analysis & resolution.
The Staff Mechanical Engineer will possess the ability to work efficiently & effectively in an ambiguous environment, to handle rapid pace environment, to resolve problems / conflicts and to take initiative & be self-managing. Responsibilities also include adhering to general mechanical engineering and DFMA (design for manufacturing and assembly) principles, design of experiments (DOE), free-body & stress-strain analysis & FEA (finite element analysis), geometric tolerance & tolerance stack-up analysis (GD&T) and gage repeatability & re-calibration system & methodology. The candidate will also have experience with plastic resins, ferrous & nonferrous metals, adhesives & sealants.

Qualifications


This position requires a minimum of a BS in Mechanical Engineering and at least a minimum eight years related experience. A minimum of five years medical device experience is preferred. Candidates are required to possess an excellent mechanical aptitude with a strong bias for action, personal computer software skills - Windows: word processing, project planning, presentation, e-mail and spreadsheets and special design analysis software , (e.g., FEA, mold flow). Requirements also include CAD software proficiency, the development of free-body diagrams, calculation of stress and strain values and formulate tolerance stack-ups. The Staff Mechanical Engineer is required to apply knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, materials, DFMA and reliability to achieve product design requirements, interpret customer to define, Providing technical leadership to product development team, provide innovative product, system and component design solutions, perform detailed design analysis and provide input or approval for detailed design specifications.

Candidates who can perform product testing to insure adequate safety factors or margins and who can provide peer feedback and mentor junior associates are preferred. Experience establishing appropriate testing strategies to insure adequate safety factors or margins, formalizing concepts and prototyping, providing support to patent attorneys for patent filing, Generate invention disclosures, drawings, etc. to support patent filings
Develop and monitor activity or design plans (time, cost, budget, risk) for assigned work and providing technical leadership to product development team required. This position will require up to 25%- Domestic and International travel and will be based in Fremont, CA.
