Accountable for management of a patient care unit (s). Partners with health care team to assure quality patient/family centered care.
Essential Functions:
- Uses established channels of communication to share information, receive feedback & report problems
- Communicates plans & decisions to staff & providers to facilitate linkages & flow of information to others
- Builds credibility with physicians as a champion for patient care, quality, & nursing professionalism
- Effectively facilitates consensus building to accomplish goals & objectives
- Provides constructive feedback & effectively manages conflict
- Creates & articulates a shared vision & goals
- Follows up on feedback & reports problems as well as positive comments
- Creates an environment which recognizes & values differences in staff, physicians, patients & communities
- Collaborates with nursing programs to provide required resources
- Acts as an expert resource for staff & utilizes knowledge in clinical area of practice
- Analyzes & evaluates nursing practice, research & trends.
- Applies knowledge to the development of standards of care & practice to ensure optimal patient outcomes
- Creates, modifies & evaluates policies & procedures as delegated &/or appropriate to the clinical unit & expertise
- Directs the development of competencies so staff achieve maximize performance.
- Maintains personal & professional growth of self & others by participating in educational offerings & professional organizations
- Partners with medical staff & other disciplines to establish patient care goals for unit development
- Evaluates patient care delivery model & the needed staff, equipment & resources to provide safe, optimal care
- Directs & supervises staff & ensures safe, therapeutic environment
- Supports the development & implementation of an organization wide patient safety program
- Ensures staff is educated on risk management & compliance issues & correct action is identified in areas of potential liability.
- Articulates the organization's performance improvement program & goals
- Develops, implements & maintains quality monitoring processes
- Formulates unit goals which are reflective of measurable objectives & evidence-based practice
- Maintains compliance on unit with all regulatory requirements
- Monitors unit quality assurance with safety, environment, pharmacy & documentation issues
- Supports the quality expert role on the unit & assists with the quality plan developed by the staff
- Formulates unit goals & quality management plans , which are responsive to the changing health care needs of the patients
- Recruits, selects, retains, coaches, mentors & counsels personnel
- Facilitates inter-departmental relationships so that mission, vision, goals of department & organization are achieved
- Demonstrates critical thinking & use of evidence based practice
- Develops & supports the Department Partnership Council (DPC) or Unit Based Team (UBT) to accomplish tasks & goals
- Actively participates in committees & task forces as needed
- Ensures staff compliance with all mandatory classes & education
- Facilitates a culture of creative thinking & acts as a change agent to challenge the status quo
- Consults with Human Resource department as needed for personnel issues
- Responsible for own professional growth & supports work-life balance
- Ensures staff has the knowledge & skills to provide appropriate, safe care to patients & families through education, coaching, training or experience
- Works with outside vendors/agencies to assure coordination of services & represent the organization in a professional manner

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
- Clinical experience as a RN - five (5) year minimum
- Leadership experience in a health care field - two (2) year minimum
- BSN or health-related bachelor's degree or currently enrolled in BSN or health-related bachelor degree program with completion date defined
- Oregon RN license upon hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers within thirty (30) days of hire
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a similar role - four (4) years preferred
- Master's degree preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge in area of clinical expertise - five (5) years preferred
- Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, JCAHO, Labor Law, all related and affiliate contracts, workmen's comp, KSMC policies and procedures, Human Resource Policies and Procedures, OSHA, CMS, Health Department, Employee benefits, National Labor Relations Board, standards of practice of professional organizations preferred
- Financial/economic principles preferred

Salary Range: $40.14 - $72.16
