Responsible for management & direction of operations for a unionized optical manufacturing/fabrication plant that produces and delivers eye care products ordered from the optical centers. Plans for, develops, maintains and manages plant, equipment, personnel, production processes, and expenses to meet growing optical product demand. Proactively meets or exceeds high quality and service expectations.

Essential Functions:
- Responsible for leading, managing, directing, building a cohesive team, coaching and developing personnel, training, scheduling and overall efficiency of the Kaiser Permanente Mid Atlantic Region's Optical Manufacturing plant (lab) and its employees.
- Oversees all manufacturing operations including production processes, production standards for optimal outcomes, quality/continuous improvement, equipment/maintenance, customer service/focus, safety, and administrative functions to maximize revenues while minimizing expenses, to include developing and directing optical lab strategies for maximum use of equipment and staff.
- Plans for, develops, promotes, maintains, and manages the plant, equipment, personnel, processes, and expenses to meet current and future demand of Optical Centers (currently 14 locations) and online website.
- Proactively meets or exceeds high quality, delivery time and service expectations for at least 130,000 patient visits and potential external customer while assisting the Vision Service Business Finance Analyst and Regional Optical Manager.
- Achieves goals by providing direction, organization, coordination of the evaluation and resolution of production and service issues, communication, and development and maintenance of appropriate technical, service and management training programs.
- Maintains a team concept by communicating, regular interaction and collaboration with the Vision Essentials leadership to include Chief of Optometry, Regional Manager, Area Optical Supervisors, and the Optical Supervisors.
- Performs other duties, as required.
Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
- Five (5) years of supervisory/manager experience required.
- Ten (10) years of experience in an optical lab setting required.
- High School graduate or GED.
- ABO certification in good standing required for new hires or obtained within one year of hire.
- Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of prescription eyewear manufacturing.
- Thorough knowledge of sound business practices in an optical or similar manufacturing operation including: inventory management, accounting, purchasing, information management, budgeting, human resource management, risk management.
- Thorough knowledge of Kaiser Permanente or management in a managed health care setting.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Broad experience in optical manufacturing, being well versed in all aspects of surfacing and finishing of lenses, patternless-edgers, inventory, training of staff, maintenance and repair of equipment, computerized generators, high-volume 100 to 300 jobs per day is required.
- Prior experience with personal computer programs and manufacturing computer applications.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Being familiar with the latest software lab packages is required.
- Human resource knowledge and ability to work in a union environment.
- Projects broad-based background in managing people and budgets.
- Previous responsibility for financial accountability.
- Must demonstrate persuasive leadership skills to guide staff through innovative and demanding period.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
