The Senior Actuarial Associateprovides actuarial support for the Colorado region of Kaiser Permanente, primarily for the small group business market. This role will require regular work on specific tasks, potentially including but not limited to additional lines of business (e.g. individual, large group, Medicare, Medicaid), product (e.g. HMO, DHMO, HDHP, POS), or function (e.g. line of business support, fee schedule development, IBNR, revenue forecasting, regulatory required rate filings).

Essential Functions:
- Primary focus is to support regional small group business lines and its strategic direction, including but not limited to the following.
- Support the development and pricing of new benefit plans (and revision of existing).
- Incorporate the effects of Health Care Reform into business line, including benefit requirements, 3Rs, and considerations of Actuarial Value (AV) impacts.
- Develop, submit and respond to rate filings and regulatory requests as applicable.
- Evaluates product line performance and the risk and appropriateness of assumptions used in product development.
- Contribute to the actuarial and underwriting community.
- Collaborate with national and regional Actuarial Peers to identify or develop best practices.
- Identify and promote opportunities for process improvements and influence change.
- Initiates and designs high priority primary research activities on behalf of clients.
- Works on projects that require more complex planning and direction setting with diverse and multiple stakeholders.
- Serves as an expert on the current health care market.
- Helps identify key gaps in knowledge and needed research for Program and Regions.
- Guides clients away from redundant, non-strategic, cost-ineffective research.
- Sets priorities for all ad-hoc projects and analyses with key clients.
- Assists clients in strategic planning, marketplace analysis, estimating growth potential, product research, image and reputation analysis, brand building, and service performance and improvements.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum five (5) years of actuarial and/or business operations experience.
- Undergraduate degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, etc.
- Attainment of ASA required.
- Knowledge of healthcare industry, including health plans, employers, and providers.
- Ability to manage large, complex projects and oversee multiple projects at the same time.
- Ability to apply advanced actuarial methodologies and their applications to solve business problems.
- Ability to apply advanced principles, theories, and concepts and explain to clients.
- Strong familiarity with the internal and external statistical plans and sources of data, and the use of spreadsheet applications.
