Medical Devices & Diagnostics Global Services, LLC., Global Supply Chain Organization is recruiting for a Principal Extrusion Engineer to support the Ethicon Franchise. This position will initially be located in Cornelia, GA and eventually transition to Athens, GA.

The Principal Engineer will be responsible for working as hands on engineer on projects in the area of plastics extrusions, compounding, extrusion process development, polymer materials testing, and characterization. This individual will be responsible for the design and implementation of robust extrusion processes as well as providing technical support in the development and improvement of plastics extrusion components. The Principal Engineer will assess and mitigate manufacturing deficiencies in the extrusion area. The Principal engineer will be expected to lead cross-functional / multidisciplinary project teams (R&D, manufacturing, marketing, regulatory, etc.) in support of manufacturing extruded components and related products and processes, complex technical resolutions/investigations, process analysis, efficiency/cost improvements, process/equipment validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), equipment/process transfers and development of new extrusion processes.

The Principal Engineer will apply process excellence tools in conducting root cause analysis of manufacturing extrusion including upstream/downstream processes such as polymerization, braiding, spooling, and polymer treatment technologies. He/she will write Engineering Change Orders to ensure proper justification and documentation of changes and generate engineering requirements, cost estimates, and schedules. This individual will work closely with Quality/Regulatory/R&D and Manufacturing. He/She will interface with outside suppliers as needed including but not limited to equipment design and coordinating/executing SAT's/FAT's, and be responsible for ensuring personnel and company compliance with all Federal, State, local and company regulations, policies and procedures for Health, Safety and Environmental compliance.

Qualifications


A BS Degree in Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science and/or extensive experience in related areas with a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in area of polymer extrusion is required or a Master's Degree in Plastics Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of related experience is required. It is required that the Principal Engineer has a working understanding of extrusion manufacturing, batch reaction processes, materials properties/characterization and process relationship characterization.

Project Management experience through the entire product development life cycle is required. Hands on experience in statistical methods such as material sampling, SPC/SQC practices is required. Working Knowledge of DOE's, FMEA's, Root Cause Analysis methods such as KT, Thought Maps, Brainstorming are required. Working knowledge of FDA, ISO, Safety, OSHA, and environmental requirements/regulations is required.

Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast paced environment while still meeting defined deadlines is required. Demonstrated leadership ability, self-starter, decisive, self-motivated, and desire to work in a cross-functional team environment is required. Trouble shooting skills and ability to analyze and then affect design changes to increase machine/process efficiency is required. Excellent communication and interpersonal relation skills are required.

The following are preferred: Certification in Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing. Knowledge of lean manufacturing and manufacturing processes such as Lean Manufacturing, KANBAN, and Pull Systems. Total Preventative Maintenance experience. Maximo software experience. Academic skills in statistics, metallurgy, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, static and dynamics, chemistry, and basic heating & ventilation. A working knowledge of cost reduction techniques such as DFM. Statistical and analytical problem solving skills are also preferred. Design experience using Solid Works and/or AutoCAD is also desired.

This position will require approximately 15% travel and will be based in Georgia (Cornelia & Athens sites).
