Consultant-Market Strategy Analysis (Local Markets)
Oakland, CA

The Consultant, Local Markets (part of Market Strategy & Analysis - California) provides analytical/strategic-thinking and leadership skills to a range of market strategy projects essential to KP's membership and margin goals. The Consultant's work enables project teams to: 1) isolate business issues; 2) design and execute analytics for studying business issues (market research and data analysis, competitive environment, industry drivers, membership trends, market share, profitability, etc); 3) bring technical/content expertise (competitive intelligence, marketing, data analysis, strategy development); 4) vet findings and make formal strategy recommendations to senior levels of KP leadership; 5) create documents (market assessments, strategy proposals, tactical plans, implementation reports) that inform critical strategic issues.The Consultant, Local Markets is typically assigned to projects that focus on developing customized membership growth and competitive strategies in local areas as opposed to region-wide strategies.

Essential Functions
- Works with business/segment owners to identify key business issues
- Manages major membership and rates analytical and/or marketing strategy projects
- Develops analytic framework required to analyze market strategy issues
- Sets project priorities
- Owns the outcome- represents findings to stakeholders
- Serves as subject matter/technical expert to Analysts on membership, rates and market strategy issues
- Contributes to the achievement of membership growth goals and successful market strategies
- Typical errors would cause moderate delays, inefficiencies and/or expenses
- Involves interpreting and analyzing established concepts
- Exercises judgment to make decisions for less defined issues and selects methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
- Requires moderately complex decision-making
- Develops solutions to complex market strategy problems. May refer to established precedents and policies when making decisions
- Requires significant analysis to develop solutions for complex problems
- Provides professional/technical guidance on membership, rates, financial and competitive data to team members
- Influences others regarding existing concepts, processes and/or methodology
- Participates in determining objectives of assignment
- Plans schedules and arranges own activities in accomplishing objectives
- Work is reviewed by management for advice and guidance prior to completion
- Provides periodic informal work guidance/direction to, and training of team members
- Provides performance input and recommendations to management for development/training plans
- May have personnel supervisory responsibilities on a project basis
Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications
- Minimum: Four (4) - eight (8) years of related experience OR master's degree and one (1) - three (3) years of experience
- Thorough knowledge of membership, rates, financial, economic and competitive data.
- Complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, market strategy practices, and standards.
- Full knowledge of industry practices.
- Broad application of principles, theories, and concepts in applicable discipline, plus working knowledge of other related fields.
- Skilled in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word; competency with MS Access and other databases highly desired. Must know how to manipulate databases such as MS Excel and/or Access, as well as manipulating reports and generating reports

Preferred qualifications
- Preferred: At least five (5) years of related experience
- Master's degree preferred (Business, Public Health, etc.)
