GENERAL SUMMARY
Provides technical support for Windows/Linux hardware and software. Consults with clients and other technical staff on complex Windows/Linux design, implementation, and maintenance solutions. Evaluates new tools and technologies for Windows/Linux. Manages Windows/Linux vendor relationships, and problem resolution. Responsible for capacity planning and performance tuning.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Installs, configures, and maintains Windows/Linux hardware, operating systems and systems management software.
- Works closely with clients, vendors, and other technical staff to identify and resolve complex issues or problems that impact the Windows/Linux environment.
- Consults with clients and other technical staff on complex Windows/Linux design, implementation, or maintenance issues. Analyze business requirements and recommends technical solutions.
- Provides technical support for Windows/Linux application development.
- Researches, evaluates, and recommends new tools and technologies for Windows/Linux.
- Works with technical staff on design and implementation of complex large scale Windows/Linux systems and applications.
- Provides capacity planning and manages performance of the Windows/Linux environment.
- Provides system administrative support for relational database servers.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Previous (5-7 years) experience in Windows/Linux as a systems administrator.
- Previous experience in a distributed processing environment.
- Significant knowledge and technical understanding of Altiris, SCCM, and/or McAfee.
- Experience supporting and trouble-shooting RDBMS and LAN/WAN networks.
- Experience with capacity planning and performance management tools and concepts.
- Experience with Shell programming and C/C++ or Java programming languages.
- Significant knowledge and technical understanding of O/S and network technologies.
- Excellent consultative and communication skills.
- Demonstrated analytical ability and judgment.
- Ability to work effectively with clients and other technical staff.
