Administers physical therapy treatments to patients, working under direction of & as assistant to Physical Therapist
Essential Functions:
- Administers active & passive manual therapeutic exercises, therapeutic massage, & heat, sound, water, & electrical modality treatments such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, & hot & cold packs
- Administers traction to relieve neck & back pain
- Fits patients for, adjusts, & trains patients in use & care of orthopedic braces, prostheses, & supportive devices such as crutches, canes, walkers, & wheelchairs.
- Instructs, motivates, & assists patients to learn & improve functional activities such as perambulations, transfer, ambulation, & daily living activities
- Observes patients during treatments & compiles & evaluates data on patients responses to treatments & progress & reports orally or in writing to Physical Therapist
- Confers w/ members of physical therapy staff & other health team members, individually & in conference, to exchange, discuss, & evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, & coordinating treatment programs
- Measures patients range-of-joint motion, length & girth of body parts, & vital signs to determine effects of specific treatments or to assist Physical Therapist to compile data for patient evaluations
- Orients new Physical Therapist Assistants & directs & gives instructions to Physical Therapy Aides, Physical Therapist Assistants, & Physical Therapist Students
- Performs clerical duties such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages, & filling out forms
- Performs other duties as assigned
- This job motivates and provides work direction to other employees, but does not have the authority to hire, fire or discipline
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Two (2) years or more experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant
- High school diploma/GED
- Certification as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the State of California
- BLS certification
- Ability to perform routine & complex therapy as determined by the Employer, working under the supervision of a California Licensed Physical therapist
- Ability to read & comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, & memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one & small group situations to customers, clients, & other incumbents of the organization
- Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment
- Refer to position specifications outlined in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement
