Based in Leeds we are offering a paid student placement within Tribology.

Job purpose:

Provide support to internal customers to provide an array of support (examples are wear testing and analysis of failed product), and to develop test protocols for the new product development portfolio. To work within the laboratory independently and in a team to provide new product verification data to support regulatory submissions and research new methodologies in hip and knee simulation. To contribute to complaint investigations and research of areas aligned to Tribology.

Principal Accountabilities:
Support internal customers to provide an array of test support

Research and develop test protocols for new product development portfolio

Produce work plans for own test responsibilities and contribute to the strategic planning process

Utilise a range of complex test equipment including wear simulators (hip and knee) and precision metrology equipment

Devise test programmes to provide functional tests to mimic in vivo scenarios

Contribute to product validations and requirement plans

Develop understanding of materials used in Orthopeadics

Contribute to New Product Development Core teams including interaction with other functions such as design, bioengineer, quality, manufacturing

Write technical reports

Work within a regulated industry in accordance with compliance standards

Skills, Knowledge and Achievements of the Role:

Develop an understanding/knowledge of industry research, tribology, kinematics

Learn to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios

Gain technical and experimental skills

Learn to manage workload and planning whilst multi tasking

Learn to understand internal customer needs and importance of customer focus

Develop project management, communication and negotiation skills whilst working in a global group

Gain an understanding of the application of materials in Orthopaedics

Confidence in applying skills to challenging technical scenarios

Understand the interactions of a research environment

Experience and develop in GLP (Good Laboratory Practise)

An opportunity for industrial year or final year project

familiarity with International Standards and their use in regulating industry

Support and Guidance:

A formal development plan, which will cover equipment and system training, quality system training in line with guidelines of Professional bodies such as I Mech E

Mentoring by permanent staff and day-to-day advice, guidance and support from the team.

Specific objectives aligned to DePuy/Johnson and Johnson objectives, which will add value to the department and allow them to achieve personal goals

EHS:
