Using radiopharmaceuticals in combination with state-of-the-art equipment, perform nuclear medicine imaging studies to assist physicians in detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease or other physiologic conditions. To perform all duties in a manner which promotes team concepts and reflects the KPNW mission and philosophy.
Essential Functions:
- Maintains quality and safety of studies through performing and recording routine quality control procedures on all cameras and equipment at required intervals.
- Troubleshooting or calling service as necessary for malfunctioning equipment, and maintaining service records.
- Performing and maintaining daily records for daily radiation survey of department personnel.
- Reporting any unacceptable levels of radiation to manager according to regulatory standards and complying with all radiation safety standards.
- Acts independently to perform and evaluate scanning techniques, using knowledge, skills and abilities required for the age of the patient served.
- Analyzes computer acquired data.
- Processes film.
- Evaluates technical quality of work performed.
- Identifies cause of common problems and acts to correct them.
- Performs in-vitro tests on blood and body fluids and calculates results.
- Provides physician with important patient history when needed to aid in diagnosis.
- Performs emergency studies on an on-call basis.
- Provides 24 hour availability of services to perform emergency studies (e.g. rule out pulmonary embolism, GI bleed, acute cholecystitis, etc).
- Consults with ordering physician or Nuclear Medicine physician as needed to provide information, answer questions, clarify orders.
- Orders radiopharmaceuticals.
- Receives and stores radioactive material.
- Maintains required records for receipt, utilization and disposal.
- Calculates proper dosage and administers pharmaceuticals intravenously or orally for routine procedures and therapy.
- Maintains dose and therapy log.
- Organizes and prioritizes patient work load according to urgency and service needs of providers and patients.
- Manages patient data through computer program.
- Assists in clerical functions as needed to maintain effective work flow.
- Participates in continuing education to maintain technical skills and knowledge.
- Assists Manager and Director in developing and refining techniques to increase diagnostic usefulness of procedures.
- Participates in outside agency proficiency testing program.
- Assists in preparation for outside agency inspections (State and JCAHO).
- Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
- Experience w/ EPIC system or other automated scheduling system preferred.
- Experience with Siemens cameras/computers, digital printing, and PACS preferred.
- At least three (3) years of experience with state-of-the-art imaging equipment preferred.
- High school diploma.
- Completion of approved structured program in Nuclear Medicine Technology or equivalent knowledge as required by federal/state regulations.
- Baccalaureate degree in applied science preferred.
- Eligible to take certification exam and become certified within six (6) months from date of hire.
- ARRT or CNMT Certification in Nuclear Medicine within six (6) months of hire.
- Oregon Board of Medical Imaging License (Nuclear Med).
- CPR Certification.
- Working knowledge of principles of Nuclear Medicine and radiation safety.
- Venipuncture and injection skills.
- Demonstrated written and verbal command of the English language.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and apply technical knowledge.
- Thorough knowledge of principles of Nuclear Medicine, thorough knowledge of radiation safety standards, basic knowledge of anatomical structure and function, and basic knowledge of body mechanics preferred.
- CPR and code response preferred.
- Venipuncture, IV start and injection skills preferred.
- Demonstrated written and verbal command of English language preferred.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and apply technical knowledge preferred.
