The Senior Process Engineer will plan and conduct activities related to the development of new processes including researching current and emerging technologies, evaluating process cost, quality, and capability alternatives, and performing process characterization and optimization using designed experiments and problem solving tools. Design comprehensive engineering activities to develop and implement effective, high quality processes. Analyze new processes and equipment with the intent of achieving continuous improvement of present methods. Develop equipment, materials and process performance requirements. Perform vendor searches and equipment evaluation to ensure adequate capability to produce quality products in required quantities at effective costs. Design and procure process tooling. Develop process documentation and training materials for new processes, materials, and equipment, including drawings, protocols, completion reports and specifications. Monitor process and material quality targets. Implement corrective actions where appropriate. Interact regularly with peers and other functional groups with Ethicon and Mitek (Raynham, MA). Assist in troubleshooting of production issues. Plan, lead, execute and complete projects with minimal supervision. Assist in preparation of business plan, including identification of new projects to drive growth and reduce costs. Originate capital appropriation requests for project work and manage spending budget.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science or a related discipline is required. A Master's degree is preferred. A minimum of 6 years of related engineering experience, with a Bachelor's degree, or a minimum of 3 years of related engineering experience, with a Master's degree, is required. Medical Device industry experience is preferred. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must have strong interpersonal skills. Knowledge of designed experiments for polymer processing parameters, including injection melt temperature, speed of injection, mold temperature, extrusion temperature, morphological and rheological characterization, preferred. Experience using small-scale equipment to manufacture precision injection molding devices is preferred. Experience with automation, robotics, PLCs and inspection systems preferred. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Project required. Knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred. Experience with Minitab and Solid Works preferred. The ability to collaborate with all levels of management across multiple sites is required. Project management experience is required. Knowledge of basic statistics is preferred. Knowledge of FDA and ISO regulations preferred. Knowledge of Six Sigma and/or Lean methodology is preferred. Six Sigma/Process Excellence Certification preferred. This position requires up to 25% travel.
