Description

Advanced Sterilization Products Division of Ethicon, Inc., a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is currently recruiting for a Senior Reliability Engineer, located in Irvine, CA.

Develops test methods and fixtures for the execution of reliability testing of components, equipment, and processes for the purpose of gauging product reliability. The reliability test engineer will accomplish this through the combined use of mechanical, electrical, and software components for more advanced engineering test setups/fixturing with direction by senior reliability engineering personnel.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Designs and conducts experiments, as well as interprets their results in support of product reliability improvement. Assists in the authoring of reliability documentation. Maintains reliability lab equipment including all planned maintenance and calibrations. Creates schematics and wiring diagrams for proposed test fixtures based on schematics supplied by R&D engineering. Sources components and assembles reliability prototypes and test setups / fixtures (e.g. cable assemblies, PCB assemblies, electro-mechanical assemblies, etc.) for advanced / difficult electro-mechanical testing. Supports off-site testing and other miscellaneous technical duties as needed. Performs detailed/routine engineering calculations involving relatively simple tests on less complicated system details where ingenuity and high level of judgment is not required. Initiates elemental engineering studies into equipment/process failures and presents details of the analysis to more experienced engineers for approval/feedback for gaining in-depth experience and improving judgment for advancing to higher level jobs. Uses engineering knowledge and techniques to troubleshoot product reliability issues under minimal supervision of more senior reliability engineering personnel. Works with NPD R&D and QA engineering personnel in assessing product designs and root cause failures analysis to avoid future failures.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Gives no supervision to others.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Minimal travel (0 - 5%)

Qualifications


EDUCATION / DEGREE REQUIRED:

A minimum BS Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent field with a minimum of 7 years of medical device or related industry experience required OR MS Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent field with a minimum of 3 years of medical device or related industry experience required.

KEY SKILL / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to make technical information easy to understand. Familiar with application of reliability statistical techniques (e.g. chi squared calculations of CM cycle/time demonstration) preferred. Comfortable using engineering tools such as DMMs, pressure gauges, variable power sources, etc. required. Ability to read mechanical and electrical engineering schematics required. Strong test set up / fixture design and development skills required. Combination of electrical and mechanical engineering experience preferred.

JOB EXPERIENCE:

1 + year of applied reliability engineering experience required. R&D, or QA engineering experience in biomedical new product development highly desired; experience in high-level disinfection or sterilization capital equipment preferred. Experience designing and executing experiments under good documentation practices, preferred. Experience in electrical work including cable assembly, soldering, crimping, and PCB assembly/integration with test fixturing, preferred.
