DePuy Mitek is the Sports Medicine business offering orthopaedic sports medicine products, soft tissue repair devices, joint movement solutions and minimally invasive and arthroscopic solutions.

The Engineer IV will be responsible for project management and technical leadership of programs involving electro-mechanical systems and associated disposables, through all phases of a formal stage gate product development process. The candidate will work closely with other members of the project core team (marketing, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory, etc.) and surgeons to define project scope and generate project schedules. The candidate must clearly communicate roles, expectations, and accountabilities to team members on a regular basis. Be a resource to facilitate the resolution of project issues. Regularly keep management informed of problems, issues, and status of on-going projects.

The candidate should demonstrate proficiency in the application of design controls and development processes, and possess strong technical skills to lead the technical product development effort in a hands-on manner. The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage a varied workload, exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills and interface effectively with project teams, management and surgeons. The individual will also be expected to develop an expert knowledge of our product lines and detailed knowledge of various orthopedic pathologies, and will be an active participant in gathering input from medical professionals. The candidate will also be expected to serve in a supervisory role within R&D.

Qualifications


A minimum of a BA/BS degree in Engineering plus 6 years of experience OR an MS degree in Engineering plus 4 years of experience is required. Advanced degree is preferred. A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent would be preferred. Experience with medical devices is preferred. Previous experience in new product development and systems engineering is required. Ability to assure completion & integrity of Design History File deliverables within Quality Management Systems. Must have experience in identifying user needs, medical device design principles, and material selection; the ability to verify and validate design concepts and understand and evaluate design failure modes is required. Must have the ability to effectively communicate concepts, ideas and knowledge to other individuals, surgeons, customers and/ or teams, and work effectively as a project lead. Must have a demonstrated leadership of project teams within a matrix environment. Must demonstrate a strong initiative and follow through in executing projects, overcoming obstacles and balancing multiple priorities effectively. Product testing in human cadaver labs will be required. Experience utilizing computer aided design (CAD) to develop a product is required; experience with Pro Engineer is preferred. Demonstrated understanding of various types of mechanisms, materials, proper tolerancing, drafting standards, and GD&T are required. Proficiency utilizing the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc) and a demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Project is required. The ability to look beyond conventional solutions and familiarity with technologies extending beyond traditional orthopedic therapies and products is desired. A PMP or other project management certification or equivalent experience is preferred. The ability to review and critically assess patents and other forms of intellectual property is preferred. Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills are required. This position is based in Raynham, MA and may require travel up to 10%.
