Coordinates the functional components of surveillance and analysis of the region wide infection control program. Assists the program manager in providing services necessary for the prevention and control of infection.
Essential Functions:
- Assists with development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and revision of Infection Prevention and Control Program goals, standards, policies and procedures, and surveillance activities
- Coordinates multi-disciplinary and interdepartmental efforts to improve performance of infection prevention/control programs and services
- Facilitates meeting applicable regulatory requirements through monitoring and reporting infection trends in the acute and ambulatory and other care settings
- Coordinates the reporting of all communicable diseases reportable by law to appropriate public health authority
- Acts as liaison to public health authorities by direct participation in the Oregon Emerging Disease Program
- Maintains records of all reportable diseases
- Participates in coordination of development and review of Infection Prevention and Control Standards of Care
- Participates in epidemiological investigations of significant clusters of infection above established standards and unusual isolates as directed the Infection Control Manager or Infectious Disease Department
- Gathers data, analyzes and prepares documents for focused studies
- Interacts with Employee Health to institute and maintain control measures pertaining to health care workers and member infection control issues
- Participates in activities to meet regulatory and accreditation requirements
- Assumes the responsibility of the Infection Control Manager in her/his absence as assigned
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years experience as an Infection Control professional in an acute care hospital
- Proof of APIC Membership
- Laboratory Science MT (ASCP) or current Oregon RN
- Certification in Infection Control (C.I.C.)
- Must have thorough knowledge of Washington and Oregon Communicable Disease Reporting Rules
- Knowledge of basic statistics
- Skills/abilities: Computer experience with data analysis tools and word processing as a minimum
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of management support tools; i.e., word processing, spreadsheet, graphic, and communication packages, etc
- Comprehensive knowledge of surveillance principles, and the CDC NHSN System
- Ability to communicate technical information
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Business communication skills
- Completion of APIC or equivalent, basic course in infection control
