This position exists to provide leadership and facilitation in the oversight, guidance, and resolution of highly strategic and sensitive brand marketing, communication initiatives, and issues. These initiatives and issues are of a cross-functional scope within KP and also impact KP's brand image and reputation to consumers and communities. The incumbent acts as a key advisor and thought partner on all aspects of brand marketing and communication and reports directly to the Chief Communication Officer (CCO). The incumbent must possess a strong background in marketing and communication to proactively identify opportunities and risk to the organization and the department. This includes keeping abreast of daily and fast-breaking public relations events, issues management, and daily internal and external news to inform, update, and provide perspective to the CCO. This position will play the vital role of providing and maintaining a 'wide-angle, big picture viewpoint' of all the happenings (internal and external) that impact Brand Communication and ensuring that the CCO is immediately kept up-to-date.
Essential Functions:
Executive Consultation and Leadership
- Acts as a business advisor and thought partner to the CCO on strategic direction of Brand Communication at Kaiser Permanente.
- Fulfills speaking requests on behalf of CCO.
- Interfaces on the CCO's behalf with Marketing & Advertising, functional communication leaders who support NLT members, and with regional communication leaders across the Program to ensure ongoing and successful linkages.
Functional Area Management
- Leads the development of the multi-year brand communication functional planning process including goal/objective setting, leadership/talent development, and change management in coordination with the CCO, direct reports and other key communication leaders, and human resources.
- In partnership with finance consultants, oversees the development and execution of Brand Communication's operating and capital budgeting process, as well as ensures the development and leadership review and approval of accurate monthly forecasts.
- Supports the planning, management and execution of key business processes associated with management of Brand Communication, including but not limited to performance management, compensation planning, strategic planning, communication, and tactical initiatives.
Strategic Projects / Programs / Initiatives
- Partners with CCO to gain executive and EMD sponsorship and insights, for the direction and execution of the THRIVE campaign
- Serves as an internal consultant on specific and special projects, where required. He/she may be responsible for managing other executive/internal staff and/or external consultant to lead large projects and/or oversee programs designed to identify and resolve issues of strategic brand importance to Kaiser Permanente
- Leads the development of processes and project planning to meet deadlines and expedite decision making
Leadership Communications
- Oversees the development of messages that communicate with various stakeholders across the organization. Determines best ways to partner, collaborate and support ongoing brand communication efforts
- Pursues every opportunity to build a strong messaging platform for all venues relating to Brand Communication and CCO. Constantly acts as an advocate of Brand Communication and its agenda.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Degree in Communication, PR, Marketing Communication, Mass Communication or equivalent.
- Ten or more years of relevant management and leadership experience in brand and marketing communications consulting preferably in healthcare industry.
- Demonstrated knowledge of strategic plan development (business cases, models and concepts).
- Proven success in complex problem solving, project management, change management and group process.
- Proven leadership, advocacy, communication and collaboration skills are essential including the ability to influence executives and functions outside of their direct control.
- Demonstrated experience working across functional and regional lines, with strong ability to lead and coordinate projects/initiatives with multiple internal and external constituents at national, regional and local levels.
- Proven solutions and operational leader who leads by example through strong personal accountability.
- Strong financial and business acumen with excellent strategic and analytical thinking capability. Experience developing and managing large scale operating budgets.
