The Medical Director will drive collaboration among R&D, Commercial and Clinical Affairs teams to improve customer experience, drive innovation, and advance health care for the future; Responsibility for the identification of emerging medical and business trends, education and informing the GMB, and appropriate utilization of such information to influence and drive business strategy; Directs and leads medical science liaison team in designing, developing and delivering effective presentations, materials and by coordinating symposia and continuing education programs to increase advocacy for the company and its products.

The main responsibilities of the Medical Director includes: Partner with the commercial organization to provide deep customer insights regarding medical aspects of our products; Responsible for overall direction and leadership of the medical science / scientific affairs team; Work closely with key development partners within and outside of J&J; Develops and manages long term relationships with identified opinion leaders and thought leaders to achieve scientific, educational and business goals; Collaborates with other relevant groups to deliver effective educational workshops, seminars and programs for physicians, pharmacists and scientists; Approves medical science liaison budgetary plan and establishes expenditure forecasts; Provide medical safety expertise, oversight and guidance as it relates to the performance and impact of products; Collaborates with key thought leaders, medical groups, government agencies and health systems to establish product awareness; Involves in health economic submissions to ensure correct medical positioning of products; Establishes performance management initiatives and metrics to ensure professional development of medical science liaisons;

Ensures that medical information and material is current and readily available; Develops and leads a high performing team, monitors, analyzes and improves group performance; Provides expertise and coaching to team members and Monitors external sources/trends and identify and escalate emerging issues. These include (but are not limited to), medical trends/emerging medical needs and market trends.

Qualifications


A MD or equivalent is required for this position. A minimum of 5 years in medical practice, preferably in family medicine is preferred. At least 5 years industry experience, preferably from the diagnostics, medical devices or pharmaceutical environment is required. Clinical study/research experience would be an asset. The successful candidate should have experience interfacing with senior leadership within a global healthcare company. Must be a strategic thinker with excellent interpersonal skills. Having served in a leadership role overseeing direct reports is a plus. The ability to work in a matrix organization with cross-functional teams is required. Excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills are required. The ability to converse clearly and knowledgeably with key opinion leaders, internal and external stakeholders is essential. This position will require up to 20% domestic and international travel.
