Vice President, IT Engineering

Phoenix Data Center

 

Coventry health Care is a Fortune 500 Leader in Managed Health Care.  We are searching for a highly-skilled Executive to lead our IT Engineering function.  This position is based in our Phoenix Data Center which is an industry-leading, technologically advanced facility.

 

Responsible for the design, development, and implementation of policies, and the day-to-day management of all engineering functions within Infrastructure including:

-

All host-based application environments in VMS, UNIX, LINUX;

-
Wintel networking functions;

-
Storage Area Networks;

-
Data and Voice Networks;

-
Database Engineering

-
Middleware

- Imaging.

 

Manages a large Director-led organizaton as well as key vendor relationships in support of these functional areas.  With the VP, Data Center Operations, is responsible for maintaining a highly available, stable production environment for the company. Provides short and long term strategic direction for the operations and activities of the IT Engineering function.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the overall development, design, architecture, construction, and implementation of all IT Engineering functions.

-
Responsible for developing all short and long term operational strategies for company-wide IT Engineering functions.

-
Provides leadership to a management team that is responsible for all aspects of systems development, implementation and support.

Develops and administers the annual department budget and resources. Responsible for the efficient use of the department’s resources to meet the strategic requirements of the business.

-
Responsible for developing metrics-based performance and uptime statistics used by Infrastructure management and reported to senior management on a regular basis.

-
Provides leadership to develop, implement, and maintain company-wide IT Engineering processes. Identifies and resolves strategic issues.
Qualifications:

JOB SPECIFICATIONS


- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Master’s degree preferred.
- Significant (10+ years) of progressively responsible positions in IT engineering and systems development (technical and project management) in a health care environment.
- Previous (7+ years) management experience required.
- Experience working with large Fortune 500 technology vendors including contract negotiations and development of SLAs.
- Significant financial management experience including responsibility for a $30M+ budget.
- Significant knowledge of business and industry including architecture design and deployment, systems lifecycle management and infrastructure planning and operations.
- Significant knowledge and experience in one or more of the following technical engineering disciplines; voice communications, data communications, database administration, or network engineering.
- Strong leadership and analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative style. Must also present a strong, results-oriented work ethic where pay-for-performance is policy and practice. Must be a positive change agent.
- Broad knowledge of system and technology alternatives.
- Excellent communication, consultative, and project management skills.
