Responsible for supporting the scientific, technical, managerial & regulatory aspects of Clinical Cytogenetics; responsible for the assessment, development, refinement & implementation of laboratory testing. Interfaces w/ Laboratory Management, Clinicians, Technical Staff. Participates in professional activities including publishing, presenting & educating.
Essential Functions:
- Participates in reviewing & signing of test reports
- Consults w/ clinical staff regarding test results
- Consults w/ clinical staff regarding appropriate test utilization
- Develops, refines & implements laboratory testing procedures
- Evaluates & recommends emerging procedures, protocols & diagnostic tests
- Provides education to technical staff, students, clinical staff
- Presents papers, posters at professional meetings
- Publishes papers/reports in peer literature
- Prepares information, data & reports for integration into management decisions
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a diagnostic clinical cytogenetics laboratory
- Demonstrated experience in hematological, routine, prenatal & molecular cytogenetics
- Postdoctoral cytogenetics laboratory experience
- Earned doctorate in human genetics or related field
- Board certified/eligible, American Board of Medical Genetics, Clinical Cytogenetics
- Strong communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five (5) years experience in a full service cytogenetic laboratory (2 years as technical director)
- Technical and director capabilities and skills in clinical laboratory cytogenetics
- Ability to work in complex work environment
-Able to perform duties on a diverse testing environment
Notes:
- Requires providing technical support and case sign out in all areas of a full service cytogenetics laboratory including: amniotic fluid cell culture; CVS culture; solid tissue culture; cancer cytogenetics; lymphocyte culture; molecular cytogenetics including FISH and array CGH; microspy/photography/computer imaging and other duties as required.
