The PACS administrator is responsible for ensuring that systems processes are able to communicate Diagnostic Images as well as visible light images from various modalities (CT, MRI, Ultrasound, etc.) correctly identify and store images in the PACS and ensure the PACS is able to present these images to the radiologist and other physician (internal and external) when requested. The PACS administrator monitors system performance, produces system management reports, trouble-shoots and resolves technical problems between various diagnostic imaging modalities, other departments related to medical imaging (surgery, GI, ENT, etc-), and KP-IT. In addition the PACS administrator partners with the diagnostic imaging department and other departments within the KP organization to ensure that all new equipment and software is compatible with the PACS, and plans and coordinate all equipment, software and systems upgrades to support the PACs system.
Essential Functions
- System administration of Windows and Server environments.
- Planning maintenance, upgrades, back up systems, disaster recovery, and performance monitoring
- Reporting to senior management, the incumbent is responsible for leading the implementation and day to day operation for the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
- Act as a liaison between Diagnostic Imaging and other departments related to medical imaging initiatives and procedures and assisting with existing or new medical imaging endeavors.
- Investigates, identifies and prepares proposals to solve specific operational problems with all clinical operational areas, partnering with the department Director, Managers, Supervisors of those departments as well as involving KP-IT when required.
- Partners with the Director of Diagnostic Imaging in the development of operating standards, policies and procedures.
- Reviews feedback from system users and compile and analyzes support data and recommends procedural and educational changes as appropriate.
- Partners with the Director of Diagnostic Imaging to oversee and coordinate strategic planning for all organizational image initiatives.
- Partners with the Diagnostic Imaging Quality and Compliance Manager to identify and design future requirements, efficient workflow processes, and quality control monitors that include further integration into operations.
- Direct oversight and coordinates strategic planning for all medical imaging initiatives.
- Responsible for budget preparation and monitoring of the operating budget(s) relative to PACS initiatives. Works in cooperation with the Diagnostic Imaging Leadership to identify present and future equipment, systems and software needs.
- Partners with the Directors, of Material Management, Diagnostic Imaging and KP-IT to manage the activities of vendors in all phases of installation and implementation of new systems.
- Works with Diagnostic Imaging personnel and all other clinical personnel relative to PACS operations
- Prepares reports for senior executives on all aspects of medical imaging operations as appropriated or directed
- Attends and participates in departmental/organizational meetings. Attends seminars and training sessions necessary to maintain appropriate level of professional competence.

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree and/or Associate's Degree in Information Technology, Health Care Administration related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3-5 years in healthcare environment working with Diagnostic Imaging technology or computers
- 3-5 using/maintaining/testing applications software
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Health Care Administration or related field
- Experience working with PACS vendors
- Registered Radiological Technologist
