GENERAL SUMMARY
Provides expert technical knowledge and support for SAN hardware and software. Provides consultations with clients and other technical staff on complex UNIX/VMS/Windows/SAN design, implementation, and maintenance solutions. Evaluates new tools and technologies for SAN. Manages SAN vendor relationships, and problem resolution. Responsible for capacity planning and performance tuning.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Installs, configures, and maintains SAN hardware, operating systems and systems management software.
- Works closely with clients, vendors, and other technical staff to identify and resolve complex issues or problems that impact the UNIX/VMS/Windows/SAN environment.
- Under minimal to no supervision, manage and implement highly technical solutions.
- Provide workgroup / team leadership over projects and processes.
- Consults with clients and other technical staff on complex UNIX/VMS/Windows/SAN design, implementation, or maintenance issues. Analyzes business requirements and recommends technical solutions.
- Provides expert technical support for UNIX/VMS/Windows/SAN application development.
- Researches, evaluates, and recommends new tools and technologies for SAN.
- Works with technical staff on design and implementation of complex large-scale UNIX/VMS/Windows/SAN systems and applications.
- Provide capacity planning and mange performance of the SAN environment.
- Trains and mentors lower level systems engineering staff. Provides leadership in the absence of the manager. May oversee projects, tasks and deliverables of lower level staff.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Previous (10+ years) experience in UNIX/VMS/Windows/SAN as a systems administrator.
- Advanced technology certification.
- Previous experience in a distributed processing environment.
- Experience supporting and trouble-shooting SAN and supporting infrastructure.
- Experience with capacity planning and performance management tools and concepts.
- Experience with Shell programming and C/C++ or Java programming languages.
- Significant knowledge and technical understanding of O/S and network technologies.
- Excellent consultative and communication skills.
- Demonstrated analytical ability and judgment.
- Ability to work effectively with clients and other technical staff.
- Ability to work independently with little or no direct supervision and to assume leadership role in project management as needed.
