Assists the Building Engineering Supervisor in the supervision and work assignments of the maintenance staff and the management of the operations of the major building systems, preventive maintenance programs, P-Card purchases and documentation, ensuring safe and efficient working conditions under OSHA standards. In the absence of the supervisor, ensures work orders are performed properly, timely and preventive maintenance tasks are completed. Maintains and supports a culture of compliance, ethics and integrity. Responsible for ensuring ongoing compliance for Facilities. Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures and performs in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, external laws and accreditation standards as they relate to Building Engineering.

Essential Functions:
- Assists the Building Engineering Supervisor in the supervision and work assignments of the maintenance staff and the management of the operations of the major building systems, preventive maintenance programs, P-Card purchases and documentation, ensuring safe and efficient working conditions under OSHA standards.
- Coordinates the activities, schedules and work assignments of maintenance personnel.
- Makes emergency decisions in the absence of the Supervisor. Attends required meetings on campus in the absence of the Supervisor.
- Provides a one-point communication to campus occupants/MOA's when the environment of the campus is adversely affected due to systems/equipment failures during the supervisor's absence.
- Operates facilities and performs routine maintenance and repairs in facilities including HVAC, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems in accordance with Regional Facility Standards, state and federal life safety codes.
- Performs minor electrical, plumbing and carpentry work. Establishes and maintains preventive maintenance repairs and safety checks records of facilities systems.
- Performs all environmental and safety task in accordance with appropriate occupational, safety, health and environmental regulations.
- Participates in the EH&S assessment process and performs the necessary task or operations to achieve compliance with assessment recommendations. Document step or measures taken in performing tasks in accordance to EH&S regulations.
- Serves as liaison/contact person for outside contractors and vendors.
- Ensures the upkeep of building grounds.
- Understands theory of operation of building automation systems
- Ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations, coordinates the activities of maintenance with computerized Building Automation Systems, fire security systems, elevators, and parking structures.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Lift up to 75-100 lbs. Exposure to cleaning/treatment chemicals. Exposed to extreme heat/cold. Must be able to climb stairs, work at heights for light bulbs/check roofs and repair/service RTUs/exhaust fans.

Secondary Functions:
- In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives. Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendors.
Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
- High schooldiploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in operation and maintenance of steam boilers and refrigeration systems.
- Current Refrigeration Operators certificate, or certified as a Stationary Engineer required.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards, regulations and record-keeping requirements.
- Basic computer skills includingMS Windows, Excel and Word.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Other license appropriate to the duties of the position will be considered.
