SAS Data Warehouse Administrator

 



GENERAL SUMMARY


Responsible for providing comprehensive knowledge, leadership, and support in the physical design, testing, implementation, maintenance, and control of the organization’s data warehouse applications and database environments across multiple platforms. Provides senior leadership in the administration of data warehouse systems including maintenance and verification of extract, transform, and load operations. Provides technical guidance to staff on complex assignments.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES


- Consults with clients and IT management in the analysis and resolution of issues related to information content, data integrity, integration, and database performance with clients and other data processing staff.
- Develops standards and procedures affecting data and process modeling and documentation, and data base design, maintenance, and management.
- Serves as senior administrator of the data warehousing environment, including security, data growth, performance, platform upgrades, support agreements, and disaster recovery.
- Provides support to end users in using data warehousing tools, formulating queries, and understanding the data contained in the data warehouse. Works directly with business customers, IT management, and senior leadership.
- Conducts performance tuning reviews for improvements to very large database environments. Prepares written reports of findings including recommendations and cost justification statements.
- Develops project estimates, plans, and timetables. Coordinates team efforts to effectively execute project plans.
- Assists in the development of the corporate data architecture and related data architecture standards and conventions.
- Works closely with data architects and senior level data administrators on the design and implementation of databases.
- Works closely with server administrators on the design and implementation of servers.
- Provides data warehouse expertise in the development, implementation, communication, and maintenance of the corporate data architecture, and data management standards and convention.
- Serves as team lead on medium to large projects.
- Provides technical support, training, mentoring, and leadership to department staff.
- Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:


JOB SPECIFICATIONS


- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Previous (7-10 years) experience in data warehousing administration including data/process analysis, and SQL programming in Oracle/and or MS SQL Server.
- Previous (7-10 years) experience working in a UNIX or Windows environment and operating system specific scripting and execution.
- Minimum of 7 years SQL programming experience required.
- In-depth knowledge of data warehouse administration in SAS/Cognos 8 or above reporting environment.
- Previous experience in project and team leadership required.
- Expert knowledge of the causes and remedies of performance issues in a data warehouse from a SQL coding perspective.
- Demonstrated excellence in consultation, presentation, verbal, and written communications skills.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with clients, data processing managers, and staff.
