The Johnson & Johnson Law Department is currently recruiting for a Senior Trademark Counsel to be located at Johnson & Johnson World Headquarters in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

The Trademark Counsel will assist in the management of the global Johnson & Johnson trademark portfolio and be part of a team dedicated to ensure the proactive management of trademark prosecution and enforcement matters, clearances, domain name/internet issues and provide intellectual property support on licensing and transactional matters.

The Trademark Counsel will conduct Trademark legal clearances - conduct and analyze preliminary and full trademark searches, search reports and foreign counsel opinions. Prepare and communicate to business clients legal opinions on mark availability, potential IP related issues and potential risks, and the strategic use of IP to support the commercial objectives of our businesses. Management of the global Trademark/Copyright/Domain Name portfolio. Assist in management of day-to-day prosecution and registration related issues for global brands and other intellectual property. Experience in domain name management and new gTLD application process. Trademark conflicts and litigation management. Manage a broad range of trademark oppositions, conflicts, litigations and UDRP proceedings on a worldwide basis; prepare, negotiate and finalize coexistence and settlement agreements. Provide legal advice, counseling and training to clients and other legal department colleagues in the areas of trademarks, licensing, intellectual property transactions, copyrights, advertisements and promotions. Prepare and negotiate a broad range of IP related agreements; including for transactional matters, licensing and co-branding, consents and conflicts, sponsorships and creative services agreements. Manage Trademark and other intellectual property issues on transactional matters; including due diligence, preparation/negotiation of agreements and licenses, and support for acquisitions and divestitures. Assist in implementation of Trademark department processes and initiatives to increase efficiencies, improve workflow and collaboration within the department and with client groups. Provide other IP related support as needed.

Qualifications


A Juris Doctor Degree and admission to and in good standing with at least one state bar is required, preferably in New Jersey and/or New York. A minimum of five (5) years of professional legal experience as a Trademark attorney at a nationally recognized, relevant law firm or in-house Trademark Department is required. Extensive law firm and in-house corporate experience in the areas of trademark prosecution, conflicts and litigations (domestic and international, and Community Trademark and International TM application filings and strategy), and managing IP related due diligence and preparation of transactional agreements/licenses are required. Extensive experience and expertise of TM database, docketing and billing systems, application filing and enforcement strategies, and other TM department processes are required.

Excellent communication and legal drafting skills are required along with an excellent work ethic and attention to detail, creative and efficient problem solving and the ability to work well independently, under tight deadlines and with cross-functional teams is required.
