Description

Alza Corporation, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is currently recruiting for a Principal Scientist, to be located in Vacaville, CA.

Janssen Supply Chain's Vacaville, CA site manufacturers pharmaceutical and over the counter medications emphasizing controlled release technologies. The facility manufactures both solid and transdermal forms.

The Principal Scientist, in a team setting and cGMP environment, will oversee routine analytical testing or microbial testing in support of raw materials, lot clearance, stability studies, and analytical request testing. The role will work independently and lead others in and sometimes perform complex analyses including, but not limited to HPLC, GC, UV Spectrophotometry, FTIR, NIR and Karl Fischer. This role will prepare data and documentation using calculators and computer software. He/she will perform peer review, evaluate and investigate results from various analyses. This individual will be accountable for identifying trends and reoccurring issues. He/she will ensure documentation for analytical activities are accurate and complete. The Principal Scientist will represent the team as a leader and provide direction and guidance in problem solving, troubleshooting and documentation related to laboratory investigations; assist/lead others in these areas. This person will apply complex principles and techniques with analysis, and also with troubleshooting and investigating to obtain solutions.

The role will participate and lead in special projects such as laboratory equipment validation, analytical method transfers, process improvements, and document change orders. This will include writing, updating and executing protocols, test methods, and standard operating procedures. He/she will understand and influence based on industry standards and regulations. The role will lead, assist, and train others in laboratory functions, especially more complex functions. This individual will ensure the development and implementation of new or proven technology. The incumbent will provide the technical criteria for new products, equipment, processes and systems. He/she must be able to represent the laboratory group in internal and external audits. This person will lead and helps supervisor promote continuous improvement in lab areas, especially surrounding Lean principles. The role will network and benchmark across J&J and the industry for best in class processes and equipment and serves as an innovation mentor. He she will assist the supervisor with functions, as needed, as their designee.

Qualifications


A minimum of a B.S. degree with 9 years of related experience OR a Master with 7 years or Ph.D. with 5 years of related experience. A focused degree in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related discipline is required. Related experience in an analytical or pharmaceutical environment is required. Working in a cGMP environment is required. Strong analytical development background is required. Proven supervisory and communication skills is required. Good negotiation and conflict resolution skills is required. This person must be capable of prioritizing, delegating, and making timely decisions. Method transfer and validation experience is required. The role is based in Vacaville, CA.
