The Extrusion Process Operator I - D Shift will Operate and navigate with the extruder computer control systems. Operates the Vac-U-Max polymer feed system and troubleshoots to eliminate feed problems. Starts up and runs extruders and affiliated equipment (godets, orientation lines, kamitsus, Statimats, Denier counter, fray counter, etc.) to produce 56, 52, 80 and 62.5 denier VICRYL
  • and/or PANACRYL
  • fiber. Tests fiber denier and performs tray testing as required and when necessary troubleshoots process equipment and takes appropriate corrective actions. Tests fiber tenacity and elongation, and tracks results using SPC charting. Monitors equipment through measured checks of speeds and temperatures. Makes appropriate process changes using the extrusion process specification and troubleshooting guide in conjunction with directions from a higher level Extrusion Process Operator or supervision. Loads fiber in Tenney ovens at required intervals. Records production data for tracking and evaluating run yield trends, actual yield, and audit progression. Handles hoppers or Port-A-Vacs appropriately, weighing and recording data to track polymer usage. Maintains accurate and legible documentation. Maintains housekeeping standards. Operates personal computers (menu software applications, spreadsheet data entry). Operates electronic balances, tachometers, calculators, pyrometers, and hand tools. Trains new associates in extrusion, orientation, and testing responsibilities. Interfaces with appropriate engineering, facilities, and instrumentation support representatives in a professional manner to ensure manufacturing operations and projects receive effective and timely technical support. Supports manufacturing teamwork in the daily communications by participating in shift change meetings and sharing appropriate process information to ensure the timely resolution of manufacturing issues.

    The Extrusion Process Operator I - D Shift will also be responsible for performing other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor/facilitator. Perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor/facilitator. Follow written specifications to manufacture product. Use associated test equipment (Starrett Gauge, Federal Gauge, Mitutoyo Gauge, Microscope). Package and prepare product for shipment.Follow current compliance regulations and standards. Comply with all federal regulated programs. Ensure safe working conditions and practices in the department. Work in team environment. Adhere to FDA quality and worldwide quality systems. Perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor/facilitator. Demonstrate ability to consistently meet required work performance targets (RE's). Demonstrate teamwork in identifying, evaluating, and resolving problems within the department. Support Maintenance Excellence including 5-S and Operator Asset Care. Support LEAN and Six Sigma initiatives.

    Qualifications


    A minimum of a High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent required. A minimum of 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

    Basic knowledge of fiber physical properties and appearance quality (tenacity, elongation, frays) preferred. Basic knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) used to identify and respond to process trends preferred. Basic computer skills required. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must have strong analytical problem solving skills. The ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, compute percentages and work with decimals and fractions required. Must have the ability to use the following: electronic balances, tachometers, calculators, pyrometers, and hand tools. The ability to maintain production records is required. Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks and various processes and coordinate with other departments to effectively perform job duties. The ability to lift/carry up to 30 pounds unaided and stand and/or walk more than 80% of the time required. Must be able to work rotating 12 hour night shifts (D Shift) (7:00 pm - 7:00 am), which will include alternating weekends. The ability to work occasional overtime and some holidays is required.
