Generate original content and/or adapt existing content from other sources, for use in various formats, including but not limited to internet and intranet pages; focus on internal and external audiences. Examples include articles, bulletins, updates, promotional copy, news releases, photos, captions and certain videos. Leverage web-based content for other media, including social media, hospital newsletters, internal memos, etc. Serve on the hospital communications team helping attain Regional Clinical Services objectives, especially quality and service goals, through execution of communication strategies. Participate in and contribute practical ideas at monthly meetings and special planning sessions.
In preparation for the opening of our new Westside Medical Center, this position will have initial responsibility for coordinating and participating in multiple community and corporate events.

Essential Functions:
- Under the direction of the hospital senior communications consultant, create, update, proofread and upload content for the Northwest Region's internal web pages and external hospital services website.
- Adapt content from the web to other communication vehicles, such as print and electronic newsletters, memos, PowerPoint presentations, posters, social media, news releases, etc.
- Produce, proofread or edit other communications as assigned by the hospital senior communication consultant.
- Produce drafts that meet KPNW standards and expectations for accuracy, clarity, writing style, and appropriate messaging.
- Align communications with the goals and standards of Regional Clinical Services, Kaiser Permanente's Northwest Region, and KP's national marketing and communications.
- Carry out assigned promotional activities.
- Activities may include conducting hospital tours, hosting events at the hospital for civic and community groups, representing the hospital at selected events in the community, and pitching hospital-related news releases to appropriate traditional and social media.
- Ensure all communications at the hospital are consistent with the Kaiser Permanente brand in terms of tone, manner, and messaging.
- Counsel Managers and staff as needed with brand compliance, helping them access appropriate resources.
- Ensure all communications are consistent with regulatory and compliance guidelines, including adherence to federal and state HIPAA consent rules for release of PHI and authorization to interview/photograph/videotape.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Kaiser Permanente's business strategy; our health care delivery system; the health insurance industry; principles of internal and external communication; and change communications.
- Keep up with new trends in communication technology, especially web-based media and Drupal software.
- Leverage knowledge from multiple sources, including medical operations, marketing, internal communications, and other sources.
- Manage and complete multiple assignments in short time frames.
- Participate in communication meetings as directed.
- Perform the duties of the senior hospital communications consultant as needed during absences for vacation or illness.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
- Five (5) years of experience writing in a corporate, marketing or public relations agency environment, including print and news releases.
- Two (2) years of experience producing content for the web and/or social media.
- Two (2) years of experience working in a health care field or with health care clients.
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, the humanities or related field.
- Valid state driver's license at time of hire.
- Demonstrated ability to create diverse content for a variety of audiences.
- Portfolio of work samples should demonstrate mastery of writing for web, print, news releases, and photography and video projects.
- Excellent writing skills; ability to write in a wide variety of formats and styles.
- Thorough knowledge of standard principles of writing (usage, grammar, and syntax).
- Working knowledge of web-based communication/new and social media.
- Ability to take digital photographs and to post them on web and social media.
- Proven project management skills for planning, organizing, managing time, and setting priorities.
- Working knowledge of hospitals or managed health care systems and the major issues affecting health care.
- Working knowledge of communication planning, tactics and approaches
- Working knowledge of corporate brand standards and their application in internal and external communications.
- Demonstrated public speaking ability.
- Working knowledge of PowerPoint.
- Ability to master Drupal software to edit and upload photos, text and video to website.
- Ability to communicate effectively about abstract and detailed issues and ideas.
- Ability to work successfully with standardized processes to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Ability to maintain high productivity amid competing priorities and tight deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively about editorial and design issues and objectives.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Ten (10) years of experience writing in a corporate, marketing or public relations agency environment.
- Ten (10) years of experience writing news releases and for print publications (may be concurrent with web and social media experience).
- Five (5) years of experience producing content for the web and/or social media.
- Five (5) years of experience working in a health care field or with health care clients.
- Experience in public speaking, including giving individual or group tours and making public presentations.
- Excellent writing skills (usage, grammar and syntax), including the ability to write for the web and a variety of other formats.
- Working knowledge of Drupal software and web-based communication/new and social media.
- Excellent information gathering and interview skills.
- Ability to take, download, crop, upload, post and caption digital photos.
- Ability to take short videos for posting on the web and social media.
- Knowledge of hospital or managed health care systems and the major issues affecting health care.
- Thorough knowledge of communication planning and development.
- Thorough knowledge of corporate brand standards and their application to internal and external communications.
