Operates diagnostic ultrasound equipment to produce images of specified areas of body. In accordance w/ Radiologist’s instructions & using knowledge of ultrasound techniques & procedures, anatomical & pathological relationships, & the contour & composition of the body. Makes members/patients & their needs a primary focus of one's actions; develops & sustains productive member/patient relationships. Actively seeks information to understand member/patient circumstances, problems, expectations, & needs. Builds rapport & cooperative relationship w/ members/patients. Considers how actions or plans will affect members; responds quickly to meet member/patient needs & resolves problems.
Essential Functions:
- Instructs patient in a courteous manner in preparing for examination; explains procedures to be performed
- Positions patient to obtain desired images in accordance w/ physician’s instructions & using knowledge of human anatomy
- Operates diagnostic ultrasound equipment to produce images of specified areas of the body; monitors images & identifies anatomical structures
- Make necessary adjustments to obtain optimal images
- Labels images as appropriate
- Operates & maintains image recording equipment, including cameras & other devices
- Develops film or processes images, as required
- Submits processes images, ultrasound requisition, & patient’s record to Radiologist, and/or designated physician, for interpretation; confers w/ Radiologist regarding patient’s examination
- Consistently operates Radiology Information System to ensure accurate patient information by tracking patient in/out of procedure room, tracking supplies/films used, identifying patient films, tracking repeated films, & all other necessary aspects of RIS
- Maintains appropriate quality control of all ultrasound procedures & equipment by monitoring the operating condition of the equipment, & makes minor adjustments & contracts service engineer as required
- Prepares & maintains ultrasound records & files, as required
- Maintains daily log of ultrasound examinations; compiles data & prepares reports, as required
- Maintains & stores inventory of supplies used in providing ultrasound services, according to established levels
- Communicates clearly, effectively & appropriately at all times
- Communicates verbally in a clear & concise manner
- Demonstrated courteous & appropriate telephone skills
- Communicates in writing accurately, completely & legibly, & routes such communication appropriately & in a timely manner
- Considers the cognitive, physical, emotional & chronological maturation process in deliver of services to patients the age group serves
- Assesses data reflective of the patient’s status & interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, & provides the care needed in accordance w/ department policy
- Exercises clinical judgment within scope of practice
- Performs other duties as required

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- 2 years of college level education or equivalent experience in a health care field
- Completion of an approved training program Diagnostic Medical Sonography
- Currently registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in the specialty areas of Abdomen, and/or Obstetrics/Gynecology
- Ability to operate Diagnostic Ultrasound equipment & perform related technical procedures
- Highly effective interpersonal & verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated customer service skills, customer focus abilities & the ability to understand KP customer needs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prefer previous experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
- Vascular preferred
