LifeScan Scotland was created in 2001 when Johnson & Johnson acquired the UK assets of Inverness Medical Ltd, a medical device company established in Inverness in 1995 to design and manufacture glucose test strips, and design electronic meters for the global diabetes market. Around 1,100 people are employed at the Inverness facility, which is regarded as a centre of excellence for those working in the field of diabetes.

With a focus on future development, LifeScan is committed to "creating a world without limits for people with diabetes." LifeScan Scotland's main product range includes the popular OneTouch® Brand of blood glucose monitoring systems, which is available globally. The company has also developed diabetes management software, control solutions and lancing devices and, in addition, produces the specialist test strips that work with many of the meters in the OneTouch Brand line.

We have an excellent opportunity for a Staff Firmware Engineer, here in Inverness. As the capital of the Highlands this relatively small city, with a population of 65,000, offers an outstanding quality of life, excellent schools and colleges and good transport links.

The successful applicant will be an experienced embedded firmware engineer, working as part of Research & Development within a multi-disciplinary team to oversee the development and lifecycle management of our portfolio of blood glucose meters. You will demonstrate strong technical leadership, underpinned by your in depth knowledge of software lifecycles, configuration management and design methodologies, ideally with experience of working within a regulated environment.

Responsibilities Include:

- Take accountability for the success of technologies within the business
- Represent R&D technically throughout the organization
- Monitor engineering progress in fields relevant to the business
- Ensure compliance with statutory and company regulations
- High decision making within the boundaries of agreed policies
- Close out decisions based on analysis of all available data (technical results and business needs)
- Plan and prioritise work in the immediate work situation
- Provide sound solutions to non-clearly defined problems/issues which require a deep grasp of theory and trained analysis and the application of knowledge from outside the immediate field
- Autonomous technical decision making
- Responsibility for leading complex projects
- Identifying customer needs and developing strategies to meet those needs
- Formal presentations to opinion formers both internal and external to LifeScan Clarity and focus is essential to communicate the concepts and messages involved

Qualifications


Required Criteria:

- Relevant Degree plus relevant experience
- Demonstrable ability for creative thought, the ability to evaluate and implement options and solutions coming from different fields of knowledge
- High-level analytical and evaluative skills are required to solve complex problems
- Creative thinking
- Must be able to practice technical skills and perform experimentation at a high standard of safety, proficiency and efficiency

Desirable Criteria:

- Medical device product development experience
