The Print Consultant II purchases thousands of client funded print, mail, fulfillment, and inventory projects for Shared Services Member and Marketing Communications (MMC), California's local service areas, and clients in other regions, annually. This position participates in programs on complex, hi-visibility print and purchasing projects designed to increase recognition of KP's brand. The Print Production Consultant II works in collaboration w/ Brand Management, Creative Services, and Consulting Services to promote and support MMC goals.
Essential Functions:
- Manage the estimation and purchase of print, mail, fulfillment, and inventory services for MMC, for purchases up to $100,000.
- Monitor and report on print purchases against department's multimillion-dollar budgets.
- Lead internal and external Production teams and provide direction.
- Train and motivate coworkers as needed.
- Act on behalf of Production Supervisor in Production Supervisor's absence.
- Purchase printed material and direct mail in a way that ensures cost-effective and timely production.
- Make sure all projects are produced on schedule and meet budget and quality standards.
- Monitor vendor quality and performance, and benchmark vendor performance.
- Resolve vendor issues.
- Obtain timely estimates and assign appropriate vendors to department projects.
- Submit detailed specifications, and establish and monitor production schedules.
- Demonstrate best practices for efficiency, timeliness, and creativity.
- Participate in interdepartmental teams on complex, high-visibility print, and purchasing projects.
- Collaborate w/ peers in Brand Management, Consulting Services, and Creative Services to recommend solutions, communicate progress, and evaluate results that ensure print project outcomes support MMC goals.
- Contribute to the development of methods and techniques for assessing the effectiveness and cost efficiency of marketing communications projects.
- Collaborate w/ peers to promote and share economies of scale, best practices, and consistency of outcomes.
- Proactively identify additional opportunities for leveraging communication planning and contracting.
- Collaborate w/ client and creative teams to develop concepts for communications projects.
- Facilitate and/or complete other duties as necessary or assigned in support of MMC.
Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in print publications, Web publications, and/or advertising, directing the purchase of print for diverse communications projects for a range of market segments, audiences, and industries.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in vendor relations, print production, and lettershop printing technology.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required, preferably in Graphic Arts, Communications, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of the principles of project management and print production, including traditional offset and digital/on demand technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to lead project teams with multiple stakeholders, to lead meetings, to develop project timelines, and to produce complex estimates and budgets for print purchasing.
- Clear and consistent communication skills for persuasive and effective interaction with a wide range of internal clients and external vendors.
- Knowledge of health care or related industry preferred.
