The Innovation and Advanced Technology (IAT) Group is tasked with identifying, assessing and introducing innovative technologies that have the power to increase affordability, improve clinical outcomes, and enhance quality of care. IAT enhances KP's ability to adopt and integrate innovative technologies and processes by leveraging research, resources, tools, and platforms. IAT advises and supports innovators and their projects, serving as a nexus for connecting people and projects, actively fostering collaboration and building the culture of innovation at KP.

The Innovation Labs team is seeking a senior level Software Engineer/Solutions Consultant to work collaboratively with our UI/UX design lead on a variety of innovation projects at Kaiser Permanente. The candidate will be responsible for the development of a wide range of applications in support of functional prototypes to production ready code. You will be working in an innovative environment with software engineers, business consultants, architects & clinicians. We are looking for people who are passionate about technology, applications to healthcare, and crave working with other smart people to solve the toughest innovation challenges. The ideal candidate will have a strong development background with knowledge of diverse programming languages. Your interests and skillsets go beyond web and server-side programming into game development, mobile application development and open-source development. Importantly, we are looking for self-starters and problem solvers. You will also lend support to the Garfield Innovation Center including leading tours for visitors to the center. Your proactive approach to creative problem solving will be essential to the success of the team.


PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Design, develop and support creative software solutions that meet the innovation challenge.
- Provide technology solutions and design for various innovation projects
- Collaborate closely with Innovation Labs (iLabs) and other teams to design, implement, and support overall IAT and GC innovation software.
- Actively promote IAT and the Garfield Center by supporting innovation related projects/activities such as interactive technology tours, media events, and tech demos/previews
- Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively
- Be able to function well within a high paced environment
- Take both initiative and direction
- Self motivated, organized and accountable
- Must have strong communication skills

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or 4 years of equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 10 years experience in solutions consulting including defining requirements, developing solution alternatives and estimates and translating client's business requirements into specific systems, applications or process designs for large complex IT solutions.
- Must have experience with a variety of JavaScript frameworks, mobile application frameworks and programming languages
- Must have solid knowledge of end-to-end architectural design and implementation of applications, systems, infrastructures, migrations, and integrations
- Extensive experience in building proof of concepts
- Experience working on multiple projects in a dynamic and highly dynamic and collaborative team.
- Familiarity of Object oriented (OO) and service oriented (SOA) architectures.
- Working knowledge of iterative and agile design / development.
- Experience in developing rich internet application GUIs
- Strong experience developing with modern integrated development environments such as Teamsite and Eclipse.
- Experience working with version control systems such as Git, Subversion, CVS, Starteam and Clearcase.
- Experience working within various operating systems including Linux, Apple and Windows.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to recognize key stakeholders and advocates of innovation.
- Experience, and comfort, working with and engaging colleagues and professionals across all aspects of business including, but not limited to: IT professionals, clinicians, operations, and external vendors.
- Experience with, or interest, in the opportunities and challenges of the health care industry
- Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Should have working knowledge of J2EE, JSP, JSF, WSDL
- In-depth knowledge of virtual machines/software is a plus
- Experience working with current scripting language such as Ruby, Python and Perl and accompanying frameworks is a major plus
