Description
A senior tax professional in Switzerland having front line responsibility for the tax matters of the Johnson & Johnson companies operating in Switzerland. The objective is for the J&J Swiss businesses to receive a dedicated level of focused tax support to ensure that tax matters are handled on an effective, efficient and fully optimized and coordinated basis. The position will be located preferably in Zug, Switzerland and will report to the Senior Tax Director, European Tax Affairs, located in the Corporate Tax Department's Brussels, Belgium office.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide advice and support to local finance directors on Swiss tax matters, including discussions with cantonal and federal authorities, audits and Swiss planning; interact with the Swiss Indirect Tax group.
2. Provide advice and support to Corporate Tax and Group Tax in the areas of transfer pricing, Swiss implications of IP and other cross-border planning, supply chain planning, L&A and divestitures, and treasury matters. Provide support to Group Tax, as requested, in the form of oversight of tax strategies/structures from a substance and governance standpoint, and work with Corporate/Group Tax to minimize risks and identify opportunities with respect to Subpart F planning.
3. Serve as an on-the-ground liaison between Corporate/Group Tax and local management and external advisors.
4. Bring in-house some of the local tax work currently handled by external tax counsel and other tax advisers, and manage/facilitate the continuing work done by the external firms (cost savings and efficiency benefits).
5. Develop and maintain relationships with cantonal and federal tax authorities, in collaboration with finance directors and external firms who currently interface with the authorities. Maintain oversight with respect to existing cantonal and federal tax rulings, and play a key role with respect to the process of developing and negotiating new rulings, to ensure alignment and knowledge sharing across the local affiliates and full tax optimization.
6. Provide high level oversight, and function in an advisory role, with respect to tax reporting and compliance responsibilities performed locally.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this tax position:
- Has at least 10 years of professional experience, including significant international corporate tax experience.
- Experience at a multinational corporation is a plus.
- Experience in dealing with tax authorities and in implementing/managing tax projects is required.
- Has a broad base of technical knowledge in corporate taxation.
- Strong working knowledge of European and US corporate tax law is preferred.
- Swiss tax certification is a plus
- Is fluent in English
- Fluency in German or French are highly desirable
Self-directed individual able to exercise a high level of independent judgment and execution in a highly complex environment; strong communication and partnering skills; some background in finance and tax accounting; strong tax research, writing and analytical skills; ability to interface with government tax officials, external advisers, and internal tax and business leaders at all levels.

Operating in a sophisticated and highly technical environment, the position involves both adapting existing ideas to new situations and devising new ideas and solutions to align with the needs of the business.
EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL INTERACTIONS:
This position requires regular contact with outside tax advisers and periodic interaction with federal and cantonal officials. The position requires a close working relationship with J&J leaders within Switzerland and frequent interaction with non-Swiss J&J leaders in Finance, Tax, Treasury, Law, Supply Chain and other functions, as well as business unit employees.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
It is planned that this position will be located in Zug. Local and international travel required (10% to 20% of the time).
