The Ethicon Surgical Care business a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is currently recruiting for a/n Process Engineer, 3rd Shift, located in Albuquerque, NM.

The Ethicon Surgical Care business offers a broad range of products, platforms and technologies-including sutures, surgical staplers, clip appliers, trocars and synthetic mesh devices-that are used in a wide variety of minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. Specialties include support for treatment of colorectal and thoracic conditions, women's health conditions, hernias, cancer and obesity. The Ethicon Surgical Care business combines products and services of two market leading legacy companies, both with long histories of medical innovation. Ethicon, Inc. based in Somerville, New Jersey, was founded more than 80 years ago as a pioneer in suture development and manufacturing, helping to transform the safety and electiveness of open surgery. The process engineer is responsible for providing project engineering support and special technical expertise to manufacturing operations to achieve the best quality, efficiency and cost. Assist in process optimization to allow improved resource allocation while maintaining safety and environmental compliance. Responsible to develop and apply the appropriate technology(s) to optimize and expand plant manufacturing capabilities to meet company's objectives for new and existing product lines.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide specific technical expertise to support product and process improvements. Lead Lean Engineering projects to improve product flow, quality and COGS. Establish specific manufacturing capability/technology to support transfers and new product introduction. Apply state-of-the-art process technology to support improved customer service and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) reduction. Establish local supplier network to assure world-class quality, delivery and cost for components and materials. Work with suppliers on resolution of raw material component issues and improvements. Maintain technical proficiency within industry related technologies. Provide technical input to special project teams; coordinate support to pilot operations as required. Follow all company safety policies and other safety precautions within the work area. Attend required safety training. Promote safety to all associates that enter the work area. Report to technical services manager / business unit manager.

Environmental - Participate in EMS management structure toward implementation & maintenance of EMS including continual improvement; pollution prevention; objectives and targets; and regulatory compliance. Participate and support the ISO 14001 Certification and Regulatory Audit process. Implement and follow all applicable EMS procedures. Adhere to the site's EHS Code of Conduct.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Manufacturing floor work requires mainly long periods of walking and standing. May need to bend, stoop and reach regularly. Some office deskwork, requiring sitting, walking, reaching and using the phone and computer. Presence on construction projects requires climbing and exposure to noise, dust, and debris. May require lifting of loads under 30 lb regularly. Occasionally lift loads over 30 lbs but less than 50 lbs (e.g. tooling dies).Maintain vision certification through the visual acuity testing/process.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Manufacturing and office environment, 3rd shift work, (the shift could change based on business needs)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Supervise technicians and cross-functional teams as required.

Qualifications


EDUCATION / DEGREE REQUIRED:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related science required. Advanced technical training in area(s) of expertise preferred.

KEY SKILL / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

Analytical and statistical measurements systems and problem solving techniques; Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) of design specifications; Component manufacturing methods and tooling.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Proficiency in word processing and documentation systems, document development, basic graphics, technical drawings, project management, data management and spreadsheets and statistical analysis preferred. Understanding of computer based process control (software and programming), and statistical analyses preferred.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of one year experience (Co-Op/Intern experience can be applicable) in medical device/pharmaceutical manufacturing, process engineering, work flow and cell design.CFM, statistical process control, assembly engineering, machine design. Materials engineering, cost analysis, analytical and statistical methods, sourcing/buying. Technical specification writing is preferred and may be required based on position level within job family (i.e., associate vs. senior engineer).
