Sr. Electrical Engineer

Kaiser Permanente (National Facilities Services - NFS), is seeking an Electrical Engineer for a position based in Anaheim, CA. Responsible for electrical engineering leadership on inpatient and outpatient medical facilities templates, programs, and standards for new, expansion, replacement and retrofit projects.
Essential Functions:
Engineer provides leadership and strategic support to design projects in conceptual design and schematic design. Reviews plans developed by field teams and consultants; assesses conformance with design criteria intent. Engineer leads development of templates and design criteria-- with focus on high performance design, user requirements, safety, cost efficiency, and integration of technology and best practices. Develops and leads Content Expert Panels. Serves as internal expert and advisor to field teams and KP service areas/regions. Provides research of best industry practices, examples of best practice implementations, and cost assessments of best practices. Develops presentation materials and presents to various audiences. As appropriate, conducts inspections inside buildings to assess current state versus desired end state and to capture those requirements. Interprets less defined guidelines to make recommendations for process improvements and/or enhancements. Requires complex communication awareness to coordinate with other departments, business lines, and client groups. Adheres to accepted industry and company standards. Works on assignments of diverse and complex scope.
Essential Functions:
- Performs complex engineering analysis and design for new medical facility structures or modifications to existing structures, code review work, and engineering research.
- Prepares and reviews plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates and reports for all types of new construction, refurbishment work, and other complex structures.
- Reviews contract drawings to ensure engineering design sufficiency and conformance to specifications.
- Conducts field/on-site observation as work pertains to particular engineering discipline and prepares recommendations.
- Interprets and coordinates existing engineering policies and methods with capital project teams.
- Responds to inquiries related to design and analysis, and requests for information from capital project team.
- Participate in the Project's kick-off session and Tier Review work sessions.
- Involves interpreting and analyzing established concepts and trends.
- Exercises considerable judgment to make decisions for less defined and complex issues.
- Requires complex decision-making.
- Develops solutions to a diverse range of complex problems, which require creativity and innovation within broadly defined policies and practices.
- Requires in-depth analysis to identify and recommend new solutions for more complex problems.
- Interprets less defined guidelines to make recommendations for process improvements and/or enhancements.

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- 8years of significant experience in electrical engineering with content knowledge in the following areas:
Design of power distribution, lighting and emergency power systems for hospitals and medical office buildings. Renewable energy, including wind, solar, fuel cell, and/or cogeneration. Emerging building electrical systems technologies with focus on sustainability, energy cost reduction and IT integration. High performance buildings Application and facility requirements for various low voltage systems deployed in our facilities such as nurse call, paging, emergency response, TV, wireless and antenna systems, clinical technology, fire alarms, security, and IT infrastructure.
- Prior Healthcare design and construction experience is required.
- Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in engineering, or related field or 4 years of equivalent work experience.
- PE license is required
- LEED AP is required
- EDAC certification required. If not certified, it will be required within 1 year of employment.
- Experience leading user groups is required
- Experience interacting with and leading efforts that include senior management is required
- The position is based in Anaheim, CA. Should be able to work out of Anaheim, CA.
- The position requires up to 25% travel.. Must be able to travel at least 25% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in energy efficient lighting is highly preferred.
- Prior experience with building commissioning is highly preferred.
- Experience in modeling of energy use for buildings or renewable energy systems (PV, wind, etc) is preferred.
- Prior experience in low voltage, security, infant tagging mobile computing systems is preferred
- Experience in innovative methods of cost reduction and savings is preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of policies, practices and systems in relevant area is preferred.
- Graduate coursework preferred.
- EDAC preferred
