Optical Engineering Interns will be responsible for the completion of short-term development projects in the areas of Vision Science and Optical Test Equipment Development. The projects require both laboratory and computer research. The interns will work under the direction of the senior scientific staff and will report to the Engineering Fellow in Optics.

Qualifications


Enrollment (not necessarily taking classes) in an accredited college/university during the Summer (June-August) 2013 Internship is required. Actively pursuing at least a Bachelors Degree and completion of optical coursework through at least junior year of undergraduate is required. A minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 (based on 4.0 scale) is preferred. Availability to work full-time (40 hours/week) during the Summer (June-August) Internship is required. Demonstrated leadership and/or participation in campus/community service activities is desired. Working knowledge of geometrical optics, optical testing (including interferometry and wavefront sensing), optical aberrations, good optical laboratory practices, and/or computer programming is preferred. Experience in a vision care practice or vision research laboratory is preferred. Initiative, work ethic, analytical skills, team work, oral and written communication skills are required. Experience with writing technical reports and giving technical presentations are preferred.

Internship positions are located in Jacksonville, Florida. Students must be able to provide their own transportation to this location. A stipend will be offered to students that meet the commuting distance eligibility requirements. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H1-B status) now or in the future.
