As a co-op in the R&D department, the individual will have the opportunity to use state of the art tools, observe world class surgeons in DePuy's new training facility, and take advantage of on-site training courses. We offer specific opportunities for students in variety of areas.

Projects may include the following:

Development of next generation of ACL repair systems, arthroscopic surgical repair solutions, neurosurgical products, shoulder (Labrel repair) anchor system or spinal surgery repair solutions

Conducting biomechanical tests on spinal implants and instruments

Support of R&D Rapid Prototyping

Support of product development and/or improvement projects

Implementation of cost reductions through product redesigns, translation of design inputs into actual design solutions using CAD and FEA

Drafting and modeling of instruments and implants

Supporting design changes of surgical instrumentation

Converting CT Scans into rapid prototype (3-D) additive models

Develop software/firmware for new and existing arthroscopic equipment products

CAD Modeling and Drafting

Polymer Characterization and Engineering Design

Development of medical instruments and implants

Performing concept development, brainstorming and various innovation generating processes

Supporting usability/ branding activities on implant systems or arthroscopic surgical repair solutions

Utilization of in vitro models of osteoarthritis to study mechanisms of action of OA therapies

Qualifications


Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college, pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering (Mechanical/Biomechanical, Biomedical/Bio, Materials or Plastics, Chemical/Biochemical, Electrical, Computer) or science (Biology, Chemistry, Immunology, Computer Science).

Candidates must be available to work full-time (40 hrs/week) during the either the Spring (January - June), Summer (May/June - August) or Fall (July - December) 2013 semester. Only students in their sophomore year or above will be considered. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.

This position is located in Raynham, MA. Students must be able to provide their own transportation as this location is not within walking distance from the train station. Students must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require future sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H1-B status) now or in the future.
