Description

Noramco, Inc., a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is recruiting for Summer (May -August) and Fall (August - December) 2013 Science and Engineering Co-ops located in Athens, Georgia.

Noramco, Inc. produces a variety of active pharmaceutical ingredients and is a major worldwide producer of medicinal analgesics, pharmaceutical intermediates and synthetic fine organic chemicals. It also produces monomers and polymers for pharmaceutical and medical devices.

Co-ops will be assigned to various positions in: Operations, Process Engineering, Maintenance, Quality Operations and Scientific Affairs. These departments facilitate the production of medical devices and active pharmaceutical ingredients and their intermediates. Responsibilities are dependent upon the department and the specific manufacturing plant assignment. The work will be conducted at the Noramco, Inc. in Athens, Georgia in one of three manufacturing plants or in various laboratories across the work site.

Co-ops may: Provide process engineering support for processes including performing analysis and implementing improvements in process cycle time, yield, and quality to maximize operations efficiency. Conduct or participate in troubleshooting efforts by analysis and correction of both chemical and mechanical operating problems to maintain or improve existing site operations. Be responsible for process surveillance programs on issues such as process control, yields, cycle times, quality, and change over. Prepare written interpretations of plant operating data and implements corrective action. Inform management of project activities by preparation and presentation of oral and written reports to document and exchange operations data. Represent operations in engineering projects and coordinate small engineering projects not assigned to the Engineering group. Prepare reports (campaign, monthly, or ad hoc) to keep Operations management informed of work in progress with expected completion dates. Conduct or participate in development projects including laboratory, pilot plant or plant scale investigations to provide improved procedures, equipment or processes for existing products. Run and coordinate process excellence (Six Sigma) improvement projects, Kaizen events, and other Lean Manufacturing initiatives. Have involvement with PLC's, DCS/BPCS which will vary by plant, these systems are tools used by the Process Engineer to accomplish the above goals. Assist in analyzing samples, developing, transferring and improving analytical methods for medical devices, pharmaceutical products and their intermediates. Support laboratory operations perform chemical and microbiological analysis of samples including raw materials, intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients. Facilitate daily laboratory operations by managing supplies, properly disposing of chemical and microbiological wastes, and maintaining instruments. Scale-up of reactions, plant implementations of new processes, selection and evaluation of process solvents and raw materials, optimization of reaction conditions and general organic chemistry experiments.

Qualifications


Candidates must be enrolled (not necessarily taking classes) in an accredited college/university during the Summer (May -August) or Fall (August - December) 2013 Co-op. Students must be pursuing a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related academic major. Availability to work full-time (40 hours/week) during the designated Co-op session is required. Availability to work a minimum of three semester rotations is preferred (ideally alternating semester rotations i.e. Summer 2013, Spring 2014, and Fall 2014 or Fall 2013, Summer 2014, and Spring 2016). Only students that have completed their freshman year or above will be considered. Students who have completed at least sophomore year are preferred. A minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 is strongly preferred. Demonstrated leadership and/or participation in campus/community service activities are desired.

This position is located in Athens, Georgia and students must be able to provide their own transportation to this location. A stipend will be offered to students that meet the commuting distance eligibility requirements. Students must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future.
