The Associate Scientist, Terminal Sterilization Laboratory Equipment Operations, under the supervision of the Gas and Heat Sterilization area manager/supervisor, will be responsible for the operation of terminal sterilization equipment and related instrumentation for the processing of customer samples. This work will support new product/process development and validation for the Sterility Assurance of healthcare (medical device and pharmaceuticals) and consumer products for J&J operating companies.
The Associate Scientist must have the desire and ability to cross-train on multiple methods of terminal sterilization to develop the skills necessary to operate equipment; primarily the field of gaseous sterilization. She/ He will provide solutions to problems of moderate complexity and exercise judgment within standard policies and procedures to determine appropriate actions. Will plan/organize assigned projects; communicate to customers and management on schedules and processing timetables to ensure timely completion. Comfortable working "hands-on" operating mechanical/electrical equipment ensuring specified parameters are met during processing runs. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Responsible for review of equipment run records for compliance to specified parameters. Working with internal and external resources to accomplish calibration/PM of instrumentation/ equipment. Must be able to work across research, development, and operation type environments to obtain the desired results for internal J&J customers. Material handling, product sealing, shipping and receiving, and customer service skills a plus. Knowledgeable in governmental current Good Manufacturing Practices, Safety, Regulatory, and Environmental policies/requirements. Ensure compliance with J&J policies/requirements.
Qualifications
The individual must have an undergraduate degree in the sciences or engineering and a minimum of 2 years of related experience. Basic knowledge of PLC programming, networking, data base management, and process trending preferred. Basic knowledge of the operation of facilities equipment desired. Must be able to pass the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection pesticide applicators basic and Ethylene Oxide course. Must be able to obtain the NJ Pesticide Applicator's License from NJDEP. Previous experience in laboratory services (microbiology, chemistry, instrumentation) or operations a plus. Ability to work in a Class 1, Division 1, Group B/C hazardous area for Ethylene Oxide sterilizer operations required. Ability to work in an industrial equipment and chemical environment required. Some shift work will be required. Good oral and written communication skill a must; Computer literate in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required. This position will be based in Raritan, NJ.
