Johnson & Johnson is currently recruiting for a Manager, Payroll Tax located in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

The Manager, Payroll Tax will be Responsible for the management, delivery, and resources of tax operations for a 40k+ US (including Puerto Rico) organization. Incumbent is responsible for timely and accurate tax payments, filings, and posting to general ledgers. Manages the year-end and W-2 processing and supports the Director in managing the services of third party providers to assure accurate and effective performance in adherence to established service levels and compliance standards. Assures operations and deliverables meet or exceed organizational objectives and service levels, follow service center strategies, and integrate as appropriate with other service center functions. Manger will be responsible for the management and communication of process improvements to tax operations.

The Manager, Payroll Tax will manage tax operations and assure that services are timely, accurate, and compliant with company and regulatory requirements. Manage day-to-day activities for the tax team and operational activities. Provide prioritization of work assignments and serve as an escalation point for issues. Assure that tax processing (e.g., federal income, state income, medicare, social security, unemployment, local, etc.), payments, and filings (e.g., 940, 941, 945, etc.) are completed with detailed attention to accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. Manage reconciliation and control reports. Implement and maintain operational procedures. Act as a subject matter expert to organize and facilitate ongoing development, evaluation/testing, and maintenance of processes and documentation (e.g., Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions), working with the Business Solutions team for strategic guidance and support. Continually drive documentation to ensure complete, accurate, and up-to-date depiction of processes. The selected individual will manage the year-end and W-2 processing, assuring compliance to mandated timeliness and federal, state, and local regulations. Proactively partner with HR shared services to drive the accuracy of essential data necessary for processing (e.g., SSNs, addresses) and develop/implement practices to increase efficiency and reduce costs by encouraging employees to receive W-2s electronically. Support the Director in managing the services of third party providers to assure accurate and effective performance in adherence to established service levels and compliance standards. Support payroll tax activity related to major projects such as mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, or restructuring. Create and utilize metrics to drive performance, identify trends, and develop/implement process improvements, escalating issues and proposed solutions as appropriate. Partner with the Payroll Business Solutions team and/or Enterprise Operations team for guidance and support. Responsible for the development of internal and external communications for tax related matters. Assure that customers, partners, and stakeholders are kept up-to-date with appropriate, timely, and relevant communication of trends, issues, and services.

The Manager, Payroll Tax will also Provide input into strategic planning sessions and participate in decision-making with a focus on practicality and implementation. Assure that physical, financial, and human capital resources are managed effectively in support of short- and long-term goals. Proactively stay up-to-date on trends and developments within assigned functional area of expertise, constantly researching and implementing best practices as appropriate. Work to enhance the capability of self and team. Maintain all compliance requirements for payroll tax processes. With the guidance and support of Business Solutions, analyze and correct errors and ensure proper quality controls are in place to avoid future errors. Support the development and execution of the federally-mandated compliance programs (e.g., SOX 404). Support internal audits, external audits, and government audits. Liais with operating companies to discuss escalated issues, policies, and procedures; review service quality and metrics and make adjustments as necessary.

The Manager, Payroll Tax will be responsible for staff & organization development which will include duties such as maintain and enhance team performance and measure results to improve effectiveness and efficiency. Encourage continuous learning and leverage service center resources (e.g. training) with senior leadership to identify gaps and solutions. Assure support of strategic business & operational direction and seek to drive continuous customer service improvements. Develop, coach, and mentor staff to build a high-performance team. Set goals and facilitate growth and development to meet individualized employee career goals, motivational needs, and organizational opportunities. Provide leadership in support of organizational direction and culture. Effectively manage employee performance using established company tools/methodology. Work with director to recommend compensation, recognition, transfer, promotion, or other personnel decisions. Assure that company policies and practices are followed, and set an example for team members. Participate in the development and delivery of training for internal staff, specialist groups, or others as needed.

Qualifications


A Bachelors Degree or equivalent is required, Graduate Degree preferred. A minimum of 10 years business experience required, of which a minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in payroll or tax related functions is a must. Previous experience in payroll tax for a large multi-state company as a manager or supervisor is preferred. Experience with other payroll functions (processing, compliance, etc.) desirable, and experience in a shared service center environment preferred. Must have demonstrated and significant analytical and problem solving skills required; Attention to detail a must; Experience with payroll SOX, audit, and corporate compliance requirements is required; Proficient understanding of payroll processes, controls, financial compliance, and regulations; Experience managing third party vendors, preferably in a shared services environment; Experience with payroll applications and service providers (e.g., BSI Tax Locator , Empower, CIC-Plus) preferred; An excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to communicate with customers, peers, and vendors; A sense of urgency in solving customer requests to ensure timely resolution and an ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and meet deadlines; Ability to influence others, identify problems, and recommend a course of action; Must have experience of developing/improving payroll processes to maximize efficiency & deliver quality services; Able to process complex information and quickly identify innovative solutions that meet both internal and business partner requirements is required; Must be comfortable in handling ambiguity and fluid situations, demonstrating a pragmatic approach; Experience of successfully managing multiple priorities & projects through successful delivery & implementation; Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact skillfully and confidently with internal stakeholders and colleagues to develop ideas, identify opportunities, and influence outcomes; Knowledge of standard business practices and professionalism in a customer service environment are essential; Ability to excel in a team based environment as a model of customer service, teamwork, and leadership. Must have the ability to mediate conflict and facilitate successful resolution. Readiness to work with team members to ensure coverage for our customers; Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, mentor, and delegate as appropriate by disseminating knowledge and techniques. Demonstrated ability to successfully provide feedback and coach employees regarding difficult situations while providing a line of sight to desired outcomes and standards; Demonstrated ability to manage highly confidential information and adhere to high standards of professionalism; Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or other designation strongly desired but not required; Experience with an ERP system required (payroll modules of SAP preferred); Exposure to contact center applications (especially case management) preferred; Experience with MicroSoft tools and applications.

This job will be performed within a corporate office environment, with a minimal 10% travel requirements.
