Provide training, consultation, audit & feedback to clinicians on their medical service documentation & coding to ensure that KPNW receives appropriate reimbursement & conforms to applicable guidelines & regulations. Contribute expertise to the development of requirements & enhancements to clinical information systems.
Essential Functions:
- Provide specialty-specific training to clinicians on documentation of services & appropriate coding of level of service (SPT-4), diagnoses (ICD-9-CM), & procedures (CPT-4). This covers all settings of care & includes tips & techniques to help clinicians do this correctly & efficiently in EpicCare. Provide training at the department, team or individual level as needed. Contribute to the development & maintenance of specialty-specific coding education materials
- Provide consultation to the EpicCare & other clinical information system teams to develop system requirements & enhancements which make appropriate documentation & coding easier for clinicians. Also provide expert consultation to other KPNW staff seeking coding advice
- Provided expert consultation to specialists or primary care clinicians as assigned on coding & documentation questions. Within assigned clinical specialties, maintain current knowledge to ensure that KPNW coding & documentation meets regulatory guidelines & audit standards, & results in appropriate reimbursement.
- Perform periodic quality audits of documentation & coding in EpicCare. Analyze results & provide summary feedback to individuals clinicians, making recommendations for improvement. Create & maintain tools to audit service data.

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- 5 years outpatient coding &/or billing experience required, including Medicare, Medicaid, third party liability billing
- Completion of an accredited 2 year Health Information program & certification as an RHIA or RHIT. Alternatively, a clinical degree such as RN or LPN w/ completion of a Health Information program & certification as a CPC or CCS. Or, the equivalent in education & experience.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Thorough knowledge of medical specialties, including the clinical conditions seen & procedures performed.
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills.
- Excellent time management & project management skills.
- Ability to write reports summarizing audit findings & recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited 4 year Health Information program and certification as an RHIA or RHIT is preferred.
- Working knowledge of inpatient physician service delivery.
- Thorough knowledge of the EpicCare system.
- 3 years experience conducting training/educational sessions for professional staff, including preparations of instructional materials.
- 3 years experience in chart note audits
Notes:
- Frequent required travel to KP locations in NW Region
- No overnight travel required
Salary Range:
$53,420 - $70,580
External hires must pass a background check/drug screen.
