Qualifications
Required Skills/Experience:
  • BS degree in an engineering or applied science discipline
  • Familiarity with automated instrumentation/equipment for laboratory, production, and/or agricultural field environments
  • Strong desire to develop and maintain custom automation solutions across a wide range of applications
  • Strong mechanical and electrical/electronics aptitude with a proven ability to troubleshoot complex automation systems/subsystems for maintenance and system improvements
  • Familiarity with pneumatic and mechanical systems including robotics and the ability to interpret mechanical and electronics CAD drawings
  • A desire and ability to learn underlying science principles and objectives to enable maximum benefit from automation systems and identify new opportunities for enabling technologies
  • A strong desire to become thoroughly knowledgeable with our automation portfolio with frequent one-on-one interaction with key team members at other sites
  • Ability and desire to take ownership of critical technologies for continual improvement and new applications
  • A proven record of delivering results on aggressive timetables, innovative thinking, and leadership/motivational skills
  • Strong communication skills to all levels of internal and external leadership and researchers with diverse backgrounds
  • Flexibility to excel in large teams or individually depending on the scope and stage of various projects
  • The candidate must have the drive and self-motivation to work in the challenging, fast-paced, and continually changing environment of new product development enabling technological innovations in life sciences
  • Ideal candidates will be capable of learning to prioritize multiple projects and tasks without the need for daily input from leadership
Desired Skills/Experience:
  • MS and/or PhD degree in an engineering or applied science discipline
  • Specific experience with SolidWorks or equivalent for Mechanical drawings, AutoCAD Electrical for electrical drawings, and Microsoft Project for project planning are highly desired
  • Experience with Matlab or equivalent, C++/C# for data analysis and automation prototyping are a plus
  • Familiarity with optical detection including imaging and image analysis is a strong plus
  • Experience with precision and micro-scale liquid handling equipment and new technologies is a plus
Other Information: up to 20% travel
