Position Overview
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) holds primary responsibility for the execution of the Medical Affairs Plan. They are the point of contact for key opinion leaders (KOLs) in a given territory and help answer their medical, scientific and research needs within specific guidelines.
Key responsibilities:
Disseminate, review and present clinical and scientific data in a balanced, unbiased manner, to key opinion leaders and other HCP's, in group and one-on-one settings
Build strong relationships with HCP's and be recognized regionally as a medical and scientific authority
Develop scientific communication materials (slide presentations) for dissemination to HCPs through contacts and meetings and provide congress support
Ensure a regional scientific leadership strategy via credible and informed scientific dialogue with KOLs
Accountable for relationships with top KOLs their region (development and sustainability through clear engagement plans)
Lead/participate in medical and scientific forums (e.g. ad boards and CMEs) where KOLs are involved
Support phase IIIB/IV local and global clinical development program. Critical contributor to site identification, patient enrollment, and follow-up visits. Assist in the interpretation of results, post-hoc analyses, and research collaboration with investigators
Support investigator initiated studies by fielding and assessing research requests, aligning investigator interests with Janssen's research needs, and engaging investigators to insure the successful execution and satisfactory completion of studies
Analyze data - new and post hoc - to develop insights and contribute to publications as appropriate
Provide expert-level clinical consultation and support to business partners (e.g. CME events, training of representatives, etc)
Partner and collaborate with in-house business partners to facilitate ongoing exchange of clinical information
Provide regional medical perspective to influence the medical affairs plan
Keep abreast of scientific literature/clinical data, relating to their therapeutic area and translate data into applicable knowledge and communication platform
Support the Medical Affairs publication plan
Qualifications
Graduate degree (Master's Degree at a minimum); Pharm.D. Ph.D., M.D. an asset
Minimum of 2 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry, which can be balanced against a strong clinical and/or scientific background in a relevant therapy area - proven track record of contribution to commercial, medical and/or clinical development strategies
Depending on the MSL Therapeutic area of responsibility, the knowledge of the therapeutic area of interest is an asset, however, depending on pipeline products and/or changing priorities, the candidate must be willing to learn about other therapeutic areas and products. Candidates should have a proven ability to learn quickly and assimilate and distill large amounts of information
Demonstrated experience of managing clinical/ scientific programs with a high degree of autonomy, including successfully managing significant programs from start to finish (publication)
Strong knowledge of GCP, Rx&D code and Healthcare Compliance policies and procedures. Familiarity with working in an environment guided by SOP's
Strategic thinking and positive track record of flawless execution
Proven ability to effectively communicate information and in particular to KOLs, as well as non-experts
Customer expertise especially scientific leadership in their therapy area - strong and strategic relationships with KOLs
Ability to put data into perspective and communicate it concisely as required
Excellent analytical, results oriented project management, facilitation and consultative skills to influence decision making
Strong prioritization skills and ability to understand how decisions fit into corporate strategies
Scientific knowledge, curiosity, familiarity and interest on keeping ahead of scientific trends within the therapeutic area is required
Ability to assist in publications
Demonstrated track record of success in strategic physician lead events
Demonstrates ability to take initiative, multitask and follow through in a field based role
Excellent strategic influencing skills
Bilingualism in French and English is an asset (required in Quebec)
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other relevant software programs
Ability to travel internationally
Ability to travel 60-70 % of the time (customer facing position). Overnight travel may be required as much as 1-2 times per week on average, depending upon region covered.
